Shawshank is known for being a tad moist, even in times of drought. After Monday’s monsoon, there was a 100% chance of dampness abounding. The fields were squishy, the sprinklers were on, and the picnic shelter had some big puddles. YHC showed up a little early to scout for a somewhat dry place to workout and found the perfect spot. Keep reading to find out what we did.
In the meantime, a fearless leader from the past made his grand return. The man who formerly wore orange shorts for every bootcamp, showed up in all black. The ghost of Johnny Cash? Nope. Bing, the Bing-a-nator, Bing-o-rama, Binger, the Bing Man. Kotters to Bing. It was good to have this guy back ITG. There is a pax who used to post and BING-O is his name-o. B-I-N-G-O…you get the picture. Brothers were excited to welcome him back to the fold.
Weather – 60-ish, HUMID, awesome.
1 minute warning, disclaimer, no FNG’s, opening prayer.
Walk a bit while waiting for Doc Luvin’ and Gills to exit the gas-guzzling family truckster, then mosey to the shelters across the street. Sand volleyball pits were flooded which made Dunphy want to go for a swim, but we passed.
SSH x 25 IC, LBAC x 10 IC (front and back), OH Clap x 10 IC, TTT x 10 IC.
5 pullups, 10 merkins, 15 squats, 10 dips, 5 burpees – do this 3 times and run to the far light pole and back. Rinse and Repeat until time is called.
YHC thought the instructions were clear. Crystal clear; however, Ken Doll powered through one set and took off running. The pax working out in his shelter followed like little lambs. It was cute but it was wrong. T-Claps for getting an extra lap of running in, but boy, the listening skills are wanting. Ken Doll is a solid dude, as are all the pax of Shawshank, but while giving instructions, stick to one syllable words.
By my count, most pax got in 45 pullups, 90 merkins, 135 squats, 90 dips, 45 burpees, and 3 trips to the light (4 if you were at shelter #1).
Mosey to the steps for 100 calf raises which Coon Dog enjoyed.
Mosey back to the flag for Mary. Flutter kicks x 25 IC, 20 Iron Crosses OYO, 30 LBC’s OYO. Recover.
May 13 – 7 year Shawshank anniversary.
Notebook, No Show, Slim Jim, Spackle.
Buzz Saw – prayer for continued recovery, praise for progress so far.
Lego – continued prayer for his dad.
Devo / Final Thoughts: YHC has enjoyed having a granddaughter for 18 months now. Maybe I am looking for it more, but Scripture is full of the phrase “your children’s children”. God cares about generational families and our role as men is to lead our families through each generation God blesses us with. Never stop teaching scripture to those in your household. Pilot, provide, and protect…our duties as men.
Special thanks to Ken Doll and Coon Dog for bring a few tires to Shawshank and additional blocks / bricks. 2 thumbs up for each of you.
