This morning the men of Turning Point, along with a few visitors from Jumanji and a Blindside, met to exercise and to honor the memory of our brother, Dear Diary.  YHC signed up to Q prior to DD’s passing.  Upon learning of his passing, YHC decided to make the workout a tribute to DD.  Over the last couple weeks there have been several re- creations of the workouts that DD Q’d.  YHC decided not to do this, but to work in 43 (DD’s age) reps of exercises.  It went something like this.

Devo

Excerpt from Strongman’s His Name…What’s His Game?  by Drs. Jerry & Carol Robeson

After such a sad loss for our Turning Point family yesterday, YHC searched for a devo last night that was appropriate for this morning.  YHC kept coming back to the current situation with the coronavirus and the word fear kept coming to mind.  YHC encouraged the pax to be sensible, but not to give in to fear during the current pandemic.  Chapter 12 focuses on 2 Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us a spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.  YHC read an excerpt from the chapter:

There are actually 2 different kinds of fear: positive and negative.  Positive fear is a natural sort of protection that keeps us from hurting ourselves.  We don’t stick out hands in a blazing fire because we know it will do permanent damage to our bodies.  We could characterize this fear more as a “deep respect.”

I “respect” fire or electricity, so I obey their laws.  The same principle applies to God. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of Wisdom” (Psalm 111:10).  I obey God’s commandments because I respect Him for who He is.

If the individual does not understand what is going on, a natural, positive fear can escalate to the point that a spirit of fear takes over.  For example, an accident or great tragedy can be the trigger that causes a positive fear to balloon into negative fear, inspired and magnified by the strongman of fear.

We know a spirit of fear is at work when our spiritual vitality is affected.  Negative fear chokes out faith, joy, peace, and love.  It binds, paralyzes, and weakens the Christian and softens him up for the arrival of other spirits, such as infirmity and bondage.  Medical science tells us that fear can cause many kinds of sickness.

In reality, negative fear is the negative “faith” of the devil.  We believe what the devil says, more than God’s Word, when we allow fear to reign in our life.  Fear is directly opposed to God’s laws.

YHC intended to say during the devotion that Dear Diary was a great example of not letting fear run your life.  Even within the last 2 weeks he was an inspiration to the pax who visited him in the hospital by joking and thinking of others despite everything he faced.

Moleskin.

  • Dear Diary-you are missed.  Thank you for the impact you have had on all of us.
