4 year Q at the ‘bush

Four years ago I rolled into Ambush not knowing what to expect.  Four years later I have a pretty good idea.  There is always a crowd for Stridelite and this morning was no different.  I think we had 9.  And there is always enough mumblechatter to keep you on your toes as the Q.  And there is always a story.  Or two. Or three. And the guys will always complain about the workout while crushing it.  The guys of Ambush are the best group of knuckleheads to keep YHC in check.  Thanks for the brotherhood gentlemen.  Below is an account of this morning activities…

Conditions:  Gloomy.  Muggy.  All around a morning that Gold Bond may be needed.

Devo:
Luke 5:17-26

17 On one of those days while He was teaching, Pharisees and teachers of the law were sitting there who had come from every village of Galilee and Judea, and also from Jerusalem. And the Lord’s power to heal was in Him. 18 Just then some men came, carrying on a mat a man who was paralyzed. They tried to bring him in and set him down before Him. 19 Since they could not find a way to bring him in because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and lowered him on the mat through the roof tiles into the middle of the crowd before Jesus.

20 Seeing their faith He said, “Friend,[h] your sins are forgiven you.”

21 Then the scribes and the Pharisees began to think: “Who is this man who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone?”

22 But perceiving their thoughts, Jesus replied to them, “Why are you thinking this in your hearts?[i] 23 Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’? 24 But so you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—He told the paralyzed man, “I tell you: Get up, pick up your mat, and go home.”

25 Immediately he got up before them, picked up what he had been lying on, and went home glorifying God. 26 Then everyone was astounded, and they were giving glory to God. And they were filled with awe and said, “We have seen incredible things today!”

This is a powerful story.  So much to get from this.

To start off there is a man who is paralyzed.  A man who cannot stand on his own two feet.  But this man also has brothers who are willing to sweat so that he does not continue to suffer.

The next big thing is a small and subtle word.  “Their”.  Seeing THEIR faith He said… Your sins are forgiven.  That man who couldn’t stand on his own two feet.  Who knows how long he had been like that.  Or what he was going through.  But you’ve been there.  I’ve been there.  Where our circumstances weigh us down.  Lucky for him, he had friends who were able to lift him up. Literally.  And they brought him to a place where his faith was combined with theirs and he was restored.

The last thing I will point out is that Jesus dealt with his sin issue first.  That is how God works.  If you want circumstances to change, you cannot continue in your sin.  He wants to fix that first.

And then God used this man’s circumstances to point back to how He really changed the man’s sin issue.

When we are struggling and feel like we cannot stand up, we need Godly men to come around and be willing to lift us up.  Men who aren’t afraid to be inconvenienced to make sure we do not wallow in sin, pity, shame….  Men who bring us to Jesus so that He can deal with that sin. And so that we can walk again.

F3 has given me brothers who will sweat with me and who will lift me up.  Who will challenge me.

I’m thankful for my brothers of F3.  Thankful for these men of Ambush.  Love you guys.  Thanks for picking me up and not leaving me where I was.
