5am (ish) Virtual Zoom workout backblast

13 PAX joined me virtually for what was the first virtual zoom workout for YHC. After a somewhat disastrous start (apparently I have 2 zoom accounts and the original account that was hosting the workout didn’t allow the other account that I was apparently trying to host the meeting from in to the meeting but was all good after we got them to work together to overcome their differences), we started the workout about 5:05am. Great turnout, quality group and YHC got a pretty good little workout in.

Motivators x 10-6 (we saved the 5-1 for the end)

PAX were encouraged to have a baseball or a softball for the workout for a few of the exercise groupings.

Grouping 1:

  • 5 hand release merkins
    • Take the baseball and do the equivalent of 10 shoulder taps, but use the ball to toss the ball up with one hand and catch it with the other. I’m going to call these plank self-toss (PST)
  • 5 hand release merkins, 10 bonnie blairs (jumping over the ball)
    • 10 PST
  • 5 hand release merkings, 10 bonnie blairs, 15 gas pumps (holding ball between feet)
    • 10 PST

Grouping 2:

  • 5 each arm alternating merkins (alternating the ball between hands after each merkin)
    • 10 PST
  • 5 each arm alternating merkins, 10 squat jumps over the ball
    • 10 PST
  • 5 each arm alternating merkins, 10 squat jumps over the ball, 15 american hammers each way alternating which side of the body the ball sits per rep
    • 10 PST

Grouping 3:

  • 5 diamond merkins with ball between hands
    • 10 PST
  • 5 diamond merkins with ball between hands, 10 lunges with tim hardaways (ball through legs) during each step
    • 10 PST
  • 5 diamond merkins with ball between hands, 10 lunges with tim hardaways, 15 iron crosses with ball between feed
    • 10 PST

Run driveway or run in place for 90 seconds.

Meet back for additional instructions before time ran out (Mary, some squats, 5-1 Motivators, and some burpees OYO for the win).

Name-a-rama

YHC forgot prayers requests at the end and announcements- but pray for the country, this community, our leaders. These are unprecedented times and people need encouragement, hope, and prayers.

Devo- Romans 1:25- They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator- who is forever praised. Amen.

Just some context- we taught on this a few weeks ago so it worked perfect.

Paul had never been to Rome when he wrote the letter of the Romans, though he had clearly expressed his desire to travel there in the near future (Acts 19:21).  He is in the Greek City of Corinth, a few years after 16-year old Nero had ascended to the throne as Emperor of Rome. This is before Nero began persecuting them so he is writing to them during a time of relative peace but he felt the church needed to get the basics of gospel doctrine. While he wasn’t in Rome, he was in a Corinth ( a prominent Greek city) that was a hub of sexual immorality and idol worship. So when he wrote the Romans about sinfulness and the ability of God’s grace to change lives, he knew what he was speaking about because he saw it every day in Corinth.

Thoughts- now with the virus, many of the things that have become our idols have been taken away from us (sports, work, money, etc…). Just as Paul wrote to the Romans here, pointing out and examining their sin and reliance on anything and everything BUT God… examine yourself, your family… are there things that you have been worshiping as idols? Read further into Romans… let God, through Paul, speak to you as if you are his only audience during this time we are going through right now. Allow it to challenge you, to reassure, you, to give you truth and eternal Hope.
