People, Not Politics

YHC was glad to be back in the gloom after taking the month of December off from bootcaps (and basically run groups too – except for 1 before the Kiawah Half). Good to see the #MenOfDepot again and to see leaders continue to develop. Continue to EH. Continue to sign up to VQ. And continue to keep the mumblechatter strong!

Conditions:  20 degrees, felt like 15. We didn’t notice

Grab a block and meet at the track

Politics is better when you work together instead of alone or against each other. Today, many exercises were IC with different pax leading the exercise. Of course, sometimes in politics you gotta go it alone. (Leader, not follower) and we had a mix of a few OYO exercises as well. Mixing it up – like the great melting pot that America is!

In politics there’s also a lot of hurry up and wait and definitely many steps in the process of getting a bill passed. On top of “legislating” there’s always constituent service and other work back in the district to stay in touch and better serve your community. With that in mind, along the track were 3 stations (marked with a familiar political sign to many in the area – and a lighted blue stick so the pax could read what awaited them inside the unmarked manila envelopes). One pax would open an envelope, lead the exercise and all pax would then move ahead to the next station and see what was in store then. Let’s begin at the start (always better than beginning at the end)…

The Thang

Your Bill gets 15 co-sponsors
15 Block Merkins in Cadence

Station One (one envelope opened, work done, move to next station, keep going)
1. Fundraiser to build campaign coffers – 31 OAC IC
2. Bill stalls in Committee – 25 curls for the girls IC (blocks)
3. Accepted campaign contributions over legal limit – 20 Burpees OYO

Station Two (same as above)
1. House passes your bill 71-53! 35 Flutters IC, 53 Squats single count
2. Senate passes your bill 26-20! 26 Monkey Humpers OYO, 20 BBSU OYO
3. Okra Strut Parade – all pax run 1 lap…flutters on the 6

Station Three (same as above, open one, work, move forward, keep going)
1. Party donors host big fundraiser to keep you in office – 71 OAC single count
2. Chapin Labor Day Parade – Indian Run 1 lap, 10 count when pax finish
3. Draw Primary Opponent – 20 burpees OYO and run 1 lap…flutters on 6

After all that hard work, what would the outcome be? In an envelope marked “From the Governor’s Desk” were 2 cards….one had a veto letter in it; the other had a letter saying the Governor would sign your bill into law.

Neckbrace gave us the verdict….VETO!!! All that hard work down the drain.

Any good elected official knows getting feedback from constituents helps him/her serve better. YHC threw out a Dealer’s Choice today.

* Convergence this Saturday at SpeedTrap (Crooked Creek Park). 6:15 am. First F3LakeMurray quarterly convergence this year!

* Read the Bible Thru in a Year – a few pax are doing this (some for the first time, others again). It’s not too late to join and it’s really not much reading each night. F3 is about Fitness, Fellowship and Faith. Don’t let the 3rd F be your weakest! Ask YHC, Plan B, UncleRico or others and they can hook you up. The Bible App on your phone. Pretty easy stuff; remember #ISI, hold each other accountable.

* F3LM150 : have you committed yet? 150 posts during the year! Follow @F3LM150 on Twitter for more details and post your weekly totals every Saturday to help hold you and others accountable. Congrats to those #MenOfDepot (and other F3LakeMurray pax for 150, 200 and some even 250+ posts in 2017!)

* F3LMP200 – 2018: If you’re on a team, you need to start training! P200 will be here soon and you don’t want to let your team down. F3LakeMurray has several teams. Tclaps to Bellhop for being our RegionQ. Follow @F3LMP200 for more details.

Like politics and life, sometimes you compromise or adjust. Today we adjusted a few stations as YHC’s eyes were bigger than the pax’s will. Pothole shared the wisdom though, it’s not that the pax COULDN’T do that many reps; it’s that they didn’t WANT to do that many reps. 71 OAC IC?? That’s just plain silly in reality. Even Major Pain wouldn’t make us do that many. We changed it up. 71 was for our House District. 20 for Senate. But each pax that lead was able to make the call on any adjustments. That’s what leaders do. Push to get the most you can from each other; but also realize limitations. It was good seeing everyone stay together and leave no man behind today.

“What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us?” (Romans 8:31 NLT)

Psychologists have discovered something like 645 different known fears that people can have. Fear is a universal problem — and it takes away our joy.

But here’s the good news: You don’t have to be afraid. You have God on your side!

“What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us?” (Romans 8:31 NLT)

With God on your side, you don’t need anything else. God plus one equals a majority.

What’s your greatest fear? Is it embarrassment? Losing your mind? Failure? Rejection? Disappointing others? Not fitting in?

Satan uses all of these fears to rob you of joy. He knows what will make you joyful, so he creates a fear to oppose it.

For instance, Satan knows doing what’s right will always bring you joy. So he makes you afraid of what other people will think if you do the right thing. He makes you worry more about your popularity than pleasing God.

Satan also knows that one of the greatest sources of joy in life is when you share the love of Christ with an unbeliever. So he makes you afraid to tell people about Jesus.

You don’t need the approval of others to find joy.

You need to live for an audience of one: God. That’s Jesus’ path to complete and total joy. He said, “I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete” (John 15:11 NIV).

You can have joy in life, knowing that God is for you. Fear not!

Talk It Over

How have you seen fear impact the lives of those you love?
What fear has been the most destructive to your life?
How will the realization that God is for you impact your fear?
