While on a solo run this weekend YHC was listening to a podcast where Tim Urban (author of waitbutwhy.com) was the guest. YHC has been a fan of Tim for a while, as he always has a way of explaining difficult things in laymen’s terms with a little humor sprinkled in.
Time had a quote that caught my attention. He was talking about how pre-waitbutwhy days and said “I was doing the classic procrastinators thing, where I was working on a lot of projects, but not working on anyone of them very seriously.” This hit YHC, because it sounds a lot like how my workday goes. Putting out a bunch of little easy fires while ignoring the enormous inferno blazing behind me.
This quote also sounded a lot like my training. When we don’t have any concrete goals to train for, we end up treading water. So, with the New Year around the corner now is a time when YHC challenges you to come up with some goals to keep you focused in your workouts.
WOW: this weeks WOW comes from former 1st F Q Chaser at last weeks Brickpile. YHC was the Q on Thursday, and it was great to see what the previous Q had done. Also, YHC had a lot to live up to.
THE THANG: The Q spent at least 8 minutes coming up with the plan, at least… [Let’s ignore this part]
Leave COT and run to Ager and down to the stop sign at Berkley/Tamaka…it is 800m from there to the light at Devine Street…
On your own AFWCFAP (as fast with correct form as possible, I made that up, I like it)
2 rounds: 25 merkins, 25 squats, 25 sit-ups
Then run 800m to Devine, then…
2 rounds: 25 merkins, 25 squats, 25 sit-ups
Then run 800m back to Berkley/Tamaka.
Less than 20 minutes into the workout the pax had run 1.5 miles and done 100 merkins, 100 squats & 100 sit-ups…solid.
Partner up at the bottom of Tamaka hill.
P1 lowplank, P2 run up to the stop bar & 1 burpee. Run back down and flapjack. Continue rotation from 1 burpee up to 5 for each partner.
Indian Run back to Hollywood Squares (800m)
Hollywood Squares finisher of 10 burpee box jumps onto the Squares.
The goods: whether it’s cave work or F3 work, Chaser always knows how to bring a good workout. What is great about this one is the simplicity it brings. It doesn’t have to be complicated to be a good Q. Sometime you can overthink yourself. Just get some good moves, make them hard, rinse/repeat.
Nice work Chaser!
