Announcements: April 29th, Don’t Suffer Challenge, Lex High, 6am;

We’d like to invite you to join the fight today by helping us get S.591: Children’s Default to Safety Act Bill passed!

S. 591 will require manufacturers of smartphones and tablets to automatically enable and passcode-protect the filters blocking material harmful to minors on devices activated in South Carolina, and subject them to criminal and civil liability for not doing so. It also prohibits individuals other than a minor’s parent or legal guardian from providing a passcode to remove the pornography filter for an internet-accessible device. (Childrens Trust of SC)

Basically, S.591 will greatly reduce the chance of children’s exposure to pornography. This in turn, will decrease the likelihood of a child becoming a victim of sex trafficking!

As of now, this bill has been sponsored by Senators Shealy, Garrett, Goldfinch, McElveen, Fanning, Kimbrell, Davis, Turner, M. Johnson, Gustafson, Cash, Rice, and Young, and has been referred to the Committee on Family and Veteran’s Services.

You can help us get this bill read in this subcommittee before the Assembly goes into recess on May 11. Senator Shealy, one of the bill sponsors, is also Chair of the Committee on Family and Veteran’s Services. We need you to reach out to Sen. Shealy’s office and first and foremost thank her for sponsoring this bill, as well as ask her to hold a subcommittee hearing!

Dear Senator Shealy,

I wanted to thank you for sponsoring S591: Children’s Default to Safety Act. I am writing to you because this issue is very important to me, and I would like to ask for it to be scheduled to be read in the Committee on Veterans and Family Services. I would like for us to do everything in our power to protect our children from the exposure of pornography that would have a devastating impact on their lives. Mandating that smart phones and other devices have their filters defaulted to “on” at the point of purchase, as well as be passcode protected, makes a lot of sense and could be a very simple and effective way to protect our children!

Prayer: by Simon Says

Verse of the day: Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. John 15:4-5
