YHC does the same thing every year. Look at next year’s Q sheet and pick one date per month to lead the gang. Some dates are random, some have a special meaning. Today is one of those days that was life changing. 2/22/2002 started off like any other day. Work, play with kids, enjoy dinner with the family, and head to bed. A phone call, late that night, changed everything. My M’s brother had passed earlier that evening. Life events can take you from complacency to urgency in a split second. 22 years have passed since that night, but life has never been the same.
I asked my M what one word would sum up Shawn. It took her all of 0.5 seconds to respond with “loyal”. Loyal, constant support or allegiance to a person. Yep, that sums him up. It made me think that we (men) often think we can do life alone, without a loyal friend or without being one. How wrong we are. Shawn would have made a great F3 brother, just like the brothers YHC enjoys at Shawshank. We have a core group loyal to F3, loyal to each other, loyal to our families, but most importantly, loyal to Jesus. Shawn was a great guy. Here’s to you, brother, on 22 long, but quick, years.

Devo: 1st part of Psalm 90:12 – teach us to number our days. Life can be cut short at a moment’s notice. We have a few days, months, years to impact others. Live every day as if it were a gift, live each moment without regret, live for God. Love those around you and enjoy the little moments. Thanks, F3 brothers, for being loyal to this pax.
