Slaying the Dragon

Ramble has done 100s of lap up Saluda hill, same goes for Bull St., Henderson St., Pickens, Kilbourne, and many more. But curiously we seem to mostly avoid the nastiest hill around…..Whaley St. At 1km long and 115′ of gain it is feared and avoided for a reason, but that is the same reason to try and tame this beast. The PAX had a easy stroll over to the starting point at Main and Whaley and then did 3 climbs up the monster. This climb must be respected, no one blasts out of the gate on Whaley, pacing was the name of the game today…..start conservative or blow up before the top.

All PAX did a great job this morning in the fight against gravity with only about 1 minute separating the lead and tail of the group. Nice work fellas!

For those that were hoping for a speed workout today, we added a little additional suffering on the way back to SPC. After a bit of recovery, we had an 800m drag race from Woodrow and Heyward back to SPC….that one hurt.

In all the workout came out to 5.1 miles with just a hair over 400′ of climbing.

Announcements:

Turtle has the Q on Wednesday and is aiming for 8ish miles….get some rest.

BRR troops are starting two-a-days on Wednesday as well. Get details from Costanza.

Hee Haw’s Little Mtn Half is this weekend…get details from backlist or the man himself

YHC did the 811 5k this past Saturday and wants to encourage everyone to mark your calendars for this one next year. Close by in Rosewood, good course, good swag with a tech t-shirt (not another cotton rag), and at $8.11 entry it’s a bargain. Add in a few miles warm up and a few miles cool down and you get speed and a bit of distance.
