Environmental readings: 62 degrees, 83% humidity, low UV index, moon is in the waxing gibbous phase, and an unhealthy air quality (per the Weather Channel).  Executive summary:  overall a pleasant morning to post.

11 PAX (including 1 FNG) post this Thanksgiving morning looking to get a little better before eating a lot of turkey.  But before we sit down to gorge ourselves with dead bird and canned jellied cranberries, lets us examine the cause of the day.  No, it was not started so people from around the world can sit glued to their televisions and watch as hundreds of people march the streets of New York holding on to large, inflated creatures and beings.  It all began as a day of giving thanks and sacrifice for the blessing of the harvest and of the preceding year.  Pilgrims and Puritans who emigrated from England in the 1620s and 1630s carried the tradition of Days of Fasting and Days of Thanksgiving with them to New England. The modern Thanksgiving holiday tradition is traced to a well-recorded 1619 event in Virginia and a sparsely documented 1621 celebration at Plymouth in present-day Massachusetts. The 1619 arrival of 38 English settlers at Berkeley Hundred in Charles City County, Virginia, concluded with a religious celebration as dictated by the group’s charter from the London Company, which specifically required “that the day of our ships arrival at the place assigned … in the land of Virginia shall be yearly and perpetually kept holy as a day of thanksgiving to Almighty God.” The 1621 Plymouth feast and thanksgiving was prompted by a good harvest, which the Pilgrims celebrated with Native Americans, who helped them get through the previous winter by giving them food in that time of scarcity.

and not always in a good way.

But let us take this day and remember that we have much to be thankful for each and every day.

Today’s musical selection to enjoy as you read.  Today’s selection is a personal favorite, a hometown favorite.  From Spartanburg, SC, The Marshall Tucker Band with Heard it in a Love Song.  How many bands have a flute and kick ass?!

So without further ado (that’s right look it up!), back to why we are here:  The one minute warning was sounded, one FNG noted, disclaimer given, COVID disclaimer given, prayer offered and off we went into the dark Strut tundra.  Taking the long way around the park, because YHC, much like Arthur Bach (the Dudley Moore version) loves the park.

THE THANG:

Welcome of the Buffet of Pain:

Given we have some PAX limited as they recovery from injuries, it was YHC’s intention to allow them an active part in the boot camp today, so there are options.

Each PAX will do two sets of 5 exercises, after the 1st set, the PAX will select a run option:  two laps around the concession stand, or two laps around the baseball field, or one long lap around half the park.  After running, the PAX will return to the concession stand, grab his rock and complete the 2nd set of exercises, and then run again.  The number of reps in each set starts with 20 (OYO) then after completing both sets, reduce by 5, yada, yada, till time is called.

Set 1

  • Merkins
  • Dips
  • Squats
  • Calf Raises
  • LBCs

Set 2

Naked Moleskin:  Thanks again to the for posting this morning.  It is always a great morning when you start the day with an F3 boot camp.  YHC is thankful for the StrutBrigade and the push they provide me each day.  Its hard to remember the days of the gym workouts. No mumble chatter, no accountability, and little of the extras that come with F3.  It is so much more than a workout group.

T-Claps to Shredder for a(nother) great #RockPile discussion this morning, too.

FNG Name Chain:  Mathew Foley, from Orangeburg, Calhoun Academy, Newberry College, hunter, stock broker……Wolfie, Bud Fox…..No Commissions………..Bernie…..Madoff!!  Welcome Madoff.

Now for Devo

Enough of that, now for today’s Devotional (which I forgot – this is a carry over as I think the message rings true especially today):

from Our Daily Bread

A Sincere Thank You

In preparation for Xavier’s first job interview, my husband, Alan, handed our son a pack of thank-you cards for him to send out after he met with prospective employers. He then pretended to be a hiring interviewer, using his decades of experience as a manager to ask Xavier questions. After the role-playing, our son tucked several copies of his resume into a folder. He smiled when Alan reminded him about the cards. “I know,” he said. “A sincere thank-you note will set me apart from all the other applicants.”

When the manager called to hire Xavier, he expressed gratitude for the first hand-written thank-you card he’d received in years.

Saying thanks makes a lasting impact. The psalmists’ heartfelt prayers and grateful worship were preserved in the book of Psalms. Though there are one hundred and fifty psalms, these two verses reflect a message of thankfulness: “I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds. I will be glad and rejoice in you; I will sing the praises of your name, O Most High” (Psalm 9:1–2).

We will never be able to finish expressing our gratitude for all God’s wonderful deeds. But we can start with a sincere thank you through our prayers. We can nurture a lifestyle of grateful worship, praising God and acknowledging all He’s done and all He promises He’ll do.
