Annual F3 Oliver Gospel Mission Loads Up on Memories

The Annual F3 Oliver Gospel Mission Lake Murray Cookout.  Wow, this was a good party.  57 men took the annual opportunity to take advantage of a great venue at Pine Island.  Now that our second cookout is in the books, YHC is confident that today those who dropped by are enjoying the memories – and definitely some sore muscles.  Alot of swimming and volleyball and horseshoes.  TClaps to Team Unicorn Slaughterhouse Deathmatch for organizing a six team volleyball tournament. To Pearl, Training Wheels and Voltron  for handling the cooking, to Robber for Qing, and to Heisenberg, the The Mission Advisory Committee Chair for keeping the event on the calendar.

The goals of this event are two-fold.  Primary is to provide a good time of fellowship to the men of the Oliver Gospel Mission (OGM) who are participates in a rigorous program to fight their addictions.  Secondary is to spread the word across F3 Midlands on the addiction program and the opportunities for the Midlands PAX to become a HIM for the Oliver Gospel Mission. Inherit in a gathering of F3 nuts is a dang good time!  Put us at Lake Murray and feed us and give us outdoor games – well, it’s gonna be fun.

The goals though.  The Oliver Gospel Mission shelter is the best place in town for these men to live for months on end as they work their way through well designed classes and chores created by the fine staff.  But on occasion leaving it’s friendly confines is a must for a strong mental, physical, and spiritual outlook.  This cookout provides one such occasion as the “program” men experience the beauty of Lake Murray for about four hours.  It’s important.  And that gets us to the F3 opportunities with OGM.  1) Sit on the F3 The Mission Advisory Committee.  This group represents the three regions and sets the tone for The Mission AO-a Saturday boot camp for the OGM program men.  The committee meets monthly to discuss the AO needs, from the actual workout to CSAUP events to meeting spiritual and mental needs of the PAX.  2) Mentors that listen and occasionally advise the program men. 3) Teachers and leaders of various classes that OGM staffers want the program men to benefit from – can you teach Finance, or Leadership, or First Aid, or, heck, Painting.  4) Posting at The Mission AO 0830 on Saturdays a few times a year – organize this on your AO Q Calendar. 5) Starting a mid-week running group or bootcamp.  You’re needed if it’s right for you: Many hands make for light work and many heads make for better ideas.  Tweet @F3TheMission or find current Advisory Committee members, Alter Boy, Heisenberg, Nails, Robber, Serena, Stones, and Training Wheels.
