Shawshank Salute to 2020

2020 has been a year to forget in many ways. In other ways, it has been a year for remembrance. Highlights of 2020…I got a new pair of shoes, new socks, and a rockin’ Shawshank hoodie. Lowlights of 2020…masks and, as I found out last night, World of Beer in the Vista is closed. Well, let’s close out the final 2020 Shawshank backblast with a little ditty on how today’s workout came about. Strap in and enjoy.

Twas the night before Thursday and I opened the weather app, Seeing the forecast I immediately said, “Crap”. A bootcamp in the shelter is always a possibility. Making it hard and fresh is, in my case, futility. I went to bed and pondered on a plan, my mind wandered to fishing off the coast of the Yucatan. Sleep came easy and I slept hard, when I awoke I looked out to my yard. When to my wonder what did appear? Relatively dry lawn and no rain, and I grabbed my gear. A brush of the teeth and some Listerine, never head to bootcamp neglecting hygiene. A plan was evolving and taking great shape. I felt like a hero without a cape. We would do pull-ups and merkins, squats and burpees too. We did some Mary, but no boat-canoe.

The 6 studs who showed up today put in solid work. KD is the man, the myth, the legend around these parts. Always good to have him out and hear him encouraging everyone. Buzz Saw is an amazing dude to watch during a workout. He never seems to tire. Coon Dog is my special buddy. My kids are grown adults now. Having CD come out reminds me of earlier days talking to my kids while they were young and trying to get the to understand simple instructions. Ramrod made yet another solid showing. Still amazed that this guy steamed so many oysters a few weeks ago and doesn’t eat them. Anyone in Lexington that wants to throw a party, call Ramrod and let him host. Awesome dude. Cheers was there as well. So many things to say about this guy, yet so little time. Use your imagination and you probably nailed my thoughts exactly. He is a character but as solid as they come. Good times by all.

Weather: mid-40’s with no rain. Perfect.
