Early Morning Math

This morning was another accountability Q for me. Knowing that the P200 will be here before I know it, I was faced with a conflict between my need to get serious about my running training and my strong desire to not run. right now, if I’m honest. the best way to get me out of bed and to a run group (especially when the temp is 27 degrees) is to sign up to Q the run group. Thankfully, there was an open spot on the Q spreadsheet.

Fearing that the cold might keep people away, I was prepared for a pretty small group. Only Canseco had Had the night before, so I knew it’d be at least him and me. When I pulled in, I saw a BUNCH of cars in the parking lot. Upon completing our pre-run count, there were 18 men total. That’s a nice number for 27 degrees!

As I explained the route, I could see the confusion on some faces. They were clearly not expecting to have to do math this early in the morning. I tried my best to explain, fumbled through, spent way too much time, and then just trusted that they had it. We prayed and were off.

THE ROUTE
Take a right out of the parking lot and head to Midway Elementary.
Turn right down bus loop and run all the way down, around the loop and head back to the church.
That is 2 miles.

From that point, turn straight at the church and continue down hwy 6.

For those looking for 4+ miles, goes to Hunter’s Ridge then turn around and head back toward church. If time remains when you reach the church tun straight and go “out and back” with remaining time.

For those looking for less than 4 miles, go “out and back” down HWY 6 with remaining time.

DEVO
I recently accepted the challenge to read one chapter of Proverbs per day for the month of January. In addition to reading and reflecting, I decided to share what resonated most with me with two groups – some F3 brothers to whom I’m accountable and my wife and two college-aged kids. The process of sharing my reflections, especially with my family, has yielded some encouraging results. First, having assumed my place as a spiritual leader in my family, something I’ve not always done, my wife and kids have expressed their appreciation and excitement over doing this little study. Next, by placing a value on their reflections it has given them a voice in communicating their understanding of the Scriptures. As I wrap up the exercise today, it’s been amazing to see how the process of sharing the Word in this way continues and what comes from it.

I would like to challenge you all to seek God’s wisdom, found in His word, and then share it with the people around you, especially your families. I believe what will come out of this would be extremely powerful and beneficial to us all.

As always, it was a pleasure to stand among and lead these men. I look forward to seeing them in the gloom soon.
