The Castle Turns 3

13 pax joined YHC in celebrating the 3rd Anniversary of the founding of #TheCastle, also affectionately referred to as #902AO. Having been a part of this group for nearly 2 years after crossing the river from F3 Lake Murray territory, it was an honor to lead the pax on this occasion.

Disclaimer, count-off

COP:

  • SSH x 20 IC
  • Spider Merkins x 10 IC – nice early #crowdpleaser
  • Plank Jacks x 10 IC
  • Through The Tunnel x 15 IC
  • Little Baby Arm Circles x 10 IC fwd, x 10 IC rev
  • Overhead Arm Claps x 10 IC

Now it’s time to hit the streets, and to the pax surprise/delight, no bricks. In the two years YHC has been posting, there were a few parts of the neighborhood I hadn’t seen in a workout, so today was going to be an explore a new sac tour of KG cul-de-sacs. Turn left out of the parking lot on NKG, visit each cul-de-sac on the right, do an exercise, return to NKG, do 10 squats OYO, then on to the next block.

  • Braddock – Burpees x 10 OYO
  • Castle Hall – Crunches – LBCs x 20 OYO
  • Davant (no it’s not a cul-de-sac, deal with it) – Diamond Merkins x 10 OYO
  • Fish Haul – Flutter Kicks x 20 IC
  • Hobonny – Hurpees (#crowdpleaser) – Hand Release Burpees x 10 OYO
  • Mackays Point – Monkey Humpers x 10 OYO

In the interest of time, Myrtle Bank remained unexplored, too bad. Time to head back to the AO. Continue to stop at each street on the right for 10 squats.

Upon return to the AO, 5 more Hurpees, 20 flutter kicks IC, and done. All together the pax covered roughly 3 miles for 3 years of #TheCastle. Great work by a great group of men that continue to push each other to get better. I’m honored to be a part of this group.

On a personal note, this week also represents the 5 year anniversary of my first F3 post at Depot (Ballentine Park in Irmo). An overweight guy in the middle of a divorce showing up for a nice hour-long workout on a cool April Saturday morning, what was I thinking! Stagecoach had the Q in his schmedium F3 Columbia shirt (F3 Lake Murray wouldn’t come to exist until a few months later). I didn’t think I was going to survive! Little did I know what the next 5 years would have in store. Since that day I’ve run 2 P200s, the Blue Ridge Relay, 3 half marathons and a Ragnar Trail relay. I never would’ve done any of these without F3. I’ve never been fast, but have always had the support of the other pax. Having the support of the pax on the big events, and just the day-to-day workouts has been a true blessing.
