“Shanks and Ladders” on the Bridge to Nowhere

11 PAX, including YHC, posted in the F3Graveyard’s “cool as a tombstone” sixty degrees of morning gloom. All were thankful we were not at the “Gauntlet”, although some of the PAX accused YHC of creating a Shanklet (ignorance not planned YHC assures).  YHC, led the PAX though what “was” to be one of three Jacob Ladders, but YHC’s first Ladder took all the time.  Despite being a “boot-camp” we managed 2.6 miles of mosey on a bridge and path that is much longer than recalled.  YHC should have listened to our elder-brother, Spackle, who recommended a reduced length at the end of the bridge only to start doing his LBC’s as the rest of us continued up the path.  “My bad brother, my M says I communicate in a confusing code too”.  We did leave the disco-ball at home this time as I could get a 70’s playlist together, but YHC promised to provide tunes next time.  Of course, YHC was smoked after the first couple of ladders as a reminder that consistency is more than once a week and the PAX all seemed a little smoked at the end, so good work was achieved.

Moleskin:

  • The Q was smoked early, but it is truly about: #GETTINGBETTERTOGETHER
  • Thankful for the mumble-chatter as YHC knows it’s F3 code for “we love ya man!”
  • Always amazed by the endurance, encouragement, and commitment of every man represented. Privileged to work with each of these brothers. Great work!

Devotional:

John 16:33 NLT (Jesus speaking) – “I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart (be of good cheer; KJV), because I have overcome the world.”

YHC shared a poem very meaningful to my father who raised YHC and my sister from his mid-thirties following the death of YHC’s mother.  The poem often comes to remembrance when considering life-trials of family, friends, and YHC. The poem helps to give resolve, that in the face of great adversity, we should never give up.  We have a hope of endurance, victory, and faith through our Savior and truly we may be closer to end of a battle than we ever realize….Push on through in his strength; “rest if you must but don’t you quit!”.

Don’t Quit

When things go wrong as they sometimes will,
When the road you’re trudging seems all up hill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but don’t you quit.

Life is strange with its twists and turns
As everyone of us sometimes learns
And many a failure comes about
When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Don’t give up though the pace seems slow –
You may succeed with another blow.

Success is failure turned inside out –
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell just how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far;
So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit –
It’s when things seem worst that you must not quit.
