Kool Moe Dee, Cameo, Vanilla Ice and others make an appearance at The Hollow

So… I took off work yesterday to clean out my garage.  Yes it was that bad.  While cleaning out the junk I came across a bag of stuff from when I went from a 1986? Dodge Conquest to a 1993? Ford Explorer.  Basically it was all the stuff from my glove compartment, under my seats, whatever from the old car.  It contained lots of cassettes, a $1 bill, an old receipt, a Blockbuster membership card, and a bunch of other stuff.  The contents haven’t been touched in over 25 years.  Sounded like a good idea for today’s Q at The Hollow, right?  To pull this off, I had to retrieve an old “beach radio” I had just thrown in the trash.

I divided the cassettes into 14 “play” cassettes and 14 “don’t play” cassettes.  The don’t play cassettes weren’t F3 friendly, or the tape itself was broken while messing with it.  I had a pencil doing the rewind thing by hand and a couple tapes get hung up in the player.  Those were the good ole days.  Anyway here’s how the workout went…

3 for SL

Weather was okay, warm, no breeze.

1 minute warning, intro, no FNGs, disclaimer, prayer, mosey for a quick warm-up

Everyone grab a block and run around to the ball field “planter” where the radio and cassettes were waiting.  I told the story and explained the rules.  We would take turns, one-by-one, selecting a “play” and “don’t play” tape.  Each tape’s number tied back to an exercise.  The “play” tape was played while the two exercises were performed.  When everyone finished we started the next round.  When finished we had completed all 14 songs and 28 exercises (14 discrete) in the hour time frame.  Luckily the timing worked out just right.  The exercises are below, done in random order…

Play Tape # / Don’t Play Tape # / Exercise

  • 1 / 21 / 15 x BLOCK THRUSTERS
  • 2 / 22 / 40 x BLOCK CFTG’S
  • 3 / 23 / 40 x BLOCK BENT OVER ROWS
  • 4 / 24 / 30 x BLOCK SHRUGS
  • 5 / 25 / 30 x BLOCK TRICEP EXTENSIONS
  • 6 / 26 / 25 x DECLINE MERKINS
  • 7 / 27 / 35 x INCLINE MERKINS
  • 8 / 28 / 40 x WALL DIPS
  • 9 / 29 / 40 x WALL STEP-UPS (20 each leg)
  • 10 / 30 / 15 x WALL JUMPS
  • 11 / 31 / 15 x BURPEES
  • 12 / 32 / 60 x LBC’s
  • 13 / 33 / 60 x AMERICAN HAMMERS (count on right side only, not both)
  • 14 / 34 / 20 x MORNING WOODS

Here was the “play” music…

  • 1 – Hammer – Pumps and a Bump
  • 2 – Stereo MC’s – Elevate My Mind
  • 3 – Kool Moe Dee – I Go To Work
  • 4 – Ace of Base – All That She Wants
  • 5 – Cameo – Word Up
  • 6 – Paul Hardcastle – 19
  • 7 – Cypress Hill – Insane in the Brain
  • 8 – Geto Boys – My Mind Playing Tricks On Me
  • 9 – Tag Team – Whoomp! There It Is
  • 10 – Sir Mix-A-Lot – Baby Got Back
  • 11 – Vanilla Ice – Ice Ice Baby
  • 12 – Boys Don’t Cry – I Wanna Be a Cowboy
  • 13 – RuPaul – Supermodel
  • 14 – 69 Boyz – Tootsie Roll (not sure about the name on this one)

We managed to get through all the “stuff”, return the blocks, and get back to the shovel flag right on time.  While we were shutting things down, we were greeted by Tiger Blood as he was passing through on an apparent long training run.

FYI – I did some searching and found that “Ryback” is from the Casey Ryback character in Under Siege… https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0105690/characters/nm0000219?ref_=tt_cl_t1
