Rock ‘n’ Roll Savannah Marathon: Mission Accomplished

13 running faithful made the voyage to Savannah, GA this past weekend on a mission to conquer new heights in the #CSAUP category.  The full marathon was on the docket for 11 of these 13 and for 9 this would be their first attempt at the 26.2 mile beast.  Most importantly, all 13 crossed the finish line safely on what proved to be a truly rewarding morning filled with achievement many thought impossible just months before.  The degree of difficulty exceeded everyone’s expectations and the final 4-6 miles were nothing short of a major gut-check.  It was ‘you against you’ from that point forward and no one in this group caved.

The run was bookended by fellowship with #TeamTrust which ran in honor of the late Jake Zeman (learn more and donate here) and in YHC’s opinion the sense of purpose given by this group helped our runners dig deep enough to finish the race.

A tremendous amount of dedication went into this endeavor and it clearly paid off in the end.  T-Claps to our Event Q, Turtle.  He accepted this challenge head-on and provided exemplary leadership throughout the training months.  Most importantly, T-Claps to the pax for committing to a plan and seeing it through to the finish line.  YHC has run seriously for 14 years and had it not been for this group – this F3 Columbia group – I would have never considered this challenge much less completed it.  F3 does so much for so many but for YHC the brotherhood created in shooting for and reaching heights previously considered unthinkable is the most powerful dynamic.  As Chaser put it, “Marathoner” is a title always earned and this team did it together.

Conditions: 44 degrees, clear, and calm at the start of the race

26.2 Mile Rock ‘n’ Roll Savannah Marathon

Savannah Route - StravaMoleskin:

  • Again, major T-Claps to Turtle for his leadership over the last eight or so months.  As summer crept along this event suddenly became ‘real’ and the lines of communication remained open the entire time.
  • T-Claps to the pax.  What else can be said?  The work that went into the training is remarkable. YHC is forever grateful for the small group of guys that were willing to get up in the middle of the night to get the miles in.  We launched numerous training runs at 4:00 AM, 4:30 AM, 4:45 AM, etc.   It takes a different mindset to achieve distance PR’s and do it consistently in the middle of the night.
  • Thank you also to the #TeamTrust group and their inclusion of F3.  Not many of us had the fortune of knowing Jake and those that did were not particularly close with him.  That certainly does not mean we don’t empathize with the situation.  Although Jake never found F3 he is certainly considered a brother in a much greater sense and that is why our group related so well to the cause.  #TeamTrust did Jake’s legacy proud this weekend and we were humbled to participate.
