Whitney’s Belated 34th! – 08/11/20

After much anticipation for Whitney to return to the Q, the birthday doubleheader Q scheduled for July 28th and 30th had to be postponed due to YHC needing to travel to Illinois with the “M” for a death in the family.  TClaps for the pax covering my Q’s at the last minute.

Anyways…..On to today…..Weather conditions – 72 degrees, slight breeze out of the SSW, all in all a great mid August morning!

In light of the 1 minute warning, YHC was going to start the day off with a playing of Whitney’s 1991 Super Bowl National Anthem…..

But the shovel flag was a little late to the party, so YHC announced the one minute warning instead.

YHC queued up some music on my tiny little speaker to begin.  The pax closest to the speaker soon realized a theme to the music (hint, my name).

Nothing gets the blood flowing like 45 minutes of Whitney Houston hits!

Warm Up –

Little Baby Arm Circles – 10 forward/back

Keep Arms up – 10 Overhead Arm Claps

Keep Arms up – 5 LBAC’s forward/back

Keep Arms Up – 5 OAC’s

Monkey Humpers – 34

On to the real work….

Grab a block and head to the soccer field.  Line up on one side.  Ready, Set, Go.

1st up – 34 Shoulder Press then sprint/mosey across the field and back and then Cusak to the far side. Plank on the 6.

2nd – 34 Chest Press then sprint/mosey across the field and back and then Cusak to the start side. Plank on the 6.

3rd – 34 Curl Press (Do a Full Curl then shoulder press at the top of curl) then sprint/mosey across the field and back and then Cusak to the far side. Plank on the 6.

4th – 34 Big Boy Press (BBSU with block, shoulder press at top) then sprint/mosey across the field and back and then Cusak to the start side. Plank on the 6.

5th – 34 Standing Chest Press (stand with block at chest level, fully extend arms out and back)  then sprint/mosey across the field and back and then Cusak to the far side. Plank on the 6.

6th – 34 Bent over rows then sprint/mosey across the field and back and then Cusak to the start side. Plank on the 6.

7th – 34 Squat Presses (blocks in hand, squat down until block touches ground then come up and then press block over head.) then sprint/mosey across the field and back and then Cusak to the far side. Plank on the 6.

8th and final – YCH decided to give the pax immediately to my right the option to take the easy way or the hard way.  Just so happened that Pothole was to the right of me, so the pax got to enjoy…..34 Block Burpees.  No sprint/mosey was needed after those, so we Cusaked back to the start line and held the block in cusak position waiting on the 6!  For the record, the easy route was going to be 34 Tricep Extensions.

Great job to the few pax who managed to complete all reps of all the exercises!  Those who didn’t only hurt themselves!

Blocks up and circle up for Mary!

Right on cue, Whitney Houston graced us with the final song of the day:

Mary would go on throughout the song:

YHC – Flutter Kicks – 5 fast count, 5 slow count

Moose – 34 American Hammers to the delight of the pax.

Joanna – 34 LBC’s

Hearing the pax trying to bust out the high notes in the above song, an overdose in the bathtub didn’t sound too bad…Too soon?

Instead, YHC felt the pax didn’t get winded enough in the workout.  As punishment, 5 burpees to end the workout and I will always love you.

Recover, Recover.

Not so much a devotion but a thought….

As I try to comprehend the past 5 months of this global pandemic that has seen things come to a crashing halt, I can’t help but think of the saying “Hindsight is 20/20”.  If we knew then what we know now, what would we have done differently? At work? At home? In our spiritual lives? With other relationships?

When I hear hindsight’s 20/20, it is often used to reflect back to change our focus back to the good or things that really matter or for us to think about what we could have done differently.  Could the year 2020 and all that has happened be God’s way of telling us all that Hindsight is 20/20 and we need to go back and shift our focus towards Him and our truly important relationships and away from our worldly possessions/duties?

We often get way too caught up in work, going out, keeping up with the Jones’ that we often times forget to keep our focus turned to God.  Numerous times throughout the Bible we are shown how Jesus would go off by himself to pray.  Maybe in this year 2020, we need to shift our focus back onto Him in order to be at peace and return to “Normal”.
