This morning proved itself to be somewhat tricky with the weather. YHC had an ace in the hole for an epic beatdown to close out 2021 but after further thought, decided it would make a great CSAUP event (more details to follow). So after some last minute consideration, it was decided that we would do something to commemorate the end of another year for the ages.
YHC had a Blessed career prior to retirement and as such was able to witness the Times Square Ball Drop in person. So YHC found it appropriate to incorporate a countdown to today’s beatdown. Unfortunately the rain prevented us from breaking out the coupons so FURTHER modification was necessary for the Weinke.
After all was said and done, here’s what went down this morning at Surge….

One New Year’s Eve during the ever famous Time Square NYE Detail, YHC was assigned to a rooftop security post in Times Square. It was the best post because 1. It looked down right at the ball; 2. No Bosses came looking for us; 3. It was away from the bustling crowd.
We had janitor locker room on the 36th Floor (We are on 37) and a coffee machine on 35. We always were able to get warm and get some coffee. For some 12 hours we were on the roof reporting any suspicious things on the other roofs around us or our roof. As soon as the ball dropped our radios went off no less than two minutes later with our boss asking for “His birdies to come down from their perch.” So the rooftop fun away from the hustle and bustle was over.
As I came out of the building (disgruntled the easy part was over) a tall man in a long fur coat basically ran right into me. Paying no mind I kept on walking. Out of nowhere I hear “Hey Lepore aren’t you a huge Jets fan?” I responded “Of course.” To my surprise I was informed that the man in the fur was none other than former Jets quarterback Chad Pennington. Before I could get my bearings he was gone. Missed opportunity to meet a Jets great (well as great as a Jet can be), but my missed opportunity was well worth the hours on the easiest NYE ever worked in my career.
