Devotion: Today is YHC’s “Gotcha Day” for Ryan (F3 Ryder)

As I began to write this week’s devotional on adoption, I had to stop and really think about what the word adopt means and what it in entails. The word adopt means to take by choice another’s child and bring it up as one’s own child. The act of adopting brings with it emotions of deep sorrow and loss but also of great joy and healing. From a Believer standpoint, we are all adopted into God’s amazing family through faith in Jesus Christ and His death on the cross. Through God’s unfathomable loss, we receive glorious joy and healing. I feel like adoption is God’s way of restoring a relationship that was lost.

He said that He will be a Father to us and we will be His sons and daughters. Understanding that, you must understand that adoption is not easy. Not even close! When you start looking into adoption, the logistics are daunting, the cost seems excessive, the demand on your time is high, the emotional toll is draining. In the moments, days, months and years of your adoption process, you learn that this path is hard but necessary. There are many lessons to be learned on the journey. Some are very hard and take time to grow in your heart as God makes you new to fit your purpose. Some are joyful as you realize that every step you take draws you closer to the very heart of God.

The absolute tragedy of a little one losing their birth parents is not lost on God. He knows the very hairs on our heads and every need before we speak it. When you think that it is all hopeless, and you will at some point in this journey, you must remember that He alone is God. We know that in ALL things, God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His Purpose.

VERSES OF THE DAY:

We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God: those who are called according to His purpose Romans 8:28 (HCSB)

Pure and undefiled religion before our God and Father is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself unstained by the world. James 1:27 (HCSB)
