The weather didn’t look too promising when YHC’s head hit the pillow, so there was a level of preparation that took place for a contingency plan. But…..it doesn’t rain at Surge….silly me. So the first plan was ready to go as 6 of the finest Surge PAX took to the Gloom for a round of 11’s and several rounds of 21.
And it went a little something like this…….

Grab a block and head to the basketball court
THE THANG
PART 1-11’s
The PAX lined up on one baseline of the basketball court with the block and performed a set of 11’s consisting of Curls of the Gurls and Burp and Merks. They would do one curl, run to the end of the basketball court, do 10 burp and merks, run back to the start baseline do 2 curls, run to the end of the basketball court do 9 burp and merks, and run back to the start baseline and so on and so on until the rep count went to 10 curls and 1 burp and merk.
PART 2-21
Now that the PAX were nice and warm we gathered our blocks and sat in a circle for 21 or Blackjack. YHC was the dealer and his trusty deck of F3 playing cards were the key. Traditional black jack…dealer has to hit 16 and stand on 17. YHC dealt to the remaining 5 PAX. Whichever PAX had the winning hand would decide which exercise from their pile of cards the PAX would do and the total rep count would be the number of the winning hand. For example, if the winning PAX had a 21 and his cards said “Merkins,” “Carolina Dry Docks” and “Squats” the PAX could call 21 Merkins or any other exercise in their hand. If the dealer (YHC) wins a hand he picks from his pile and the total number of reps is DOUBLE the card total. Several hands were played and the dealer (YHC) didn’t win a hand.

Return the blocks and Mosey back to the flag.

Moleskin: It would be really fun to sit at a table with Bogey and Doogie and watch them take down a casino because they were on fire.
On as more serious note YHC disclosed to the PAX of Surge that he recently just celebrated 10 years of sobriety. Once the pandemic hit, a lot of fellowship and groups and recovery tools were wiped out and reduced to ZOOM, YouTube and phone calls. But God put people in my life at the right time and I was introduced to the fellowship of F3, a lifeline during a storm. Sometimes someone in recovery needs a little more than a fellow brother in recovery to tell them what the recovery answer is. Sometimes you need an unbiased friend…a genuine friend that holds you accountable and truly cares about your well-being, to tell you like it is. The word gratitude does not come close to how I feel about my brothers across F3 Lexington, particularly to the men of Surge. These men….you men….my friends…my brothers…..have been some much more than a bridge back to life for me. I thank all you…..I appreciate all of you…my M and 2.0s also appreciate all of you.
