This past weekend marked the 21st Anniversary of the September 11th attacks. All of us remember what happened that day and the insurmountable number of lives that were so selfishly called to an end. Many first responders that were called to duty in the weeks and months that followed sifting through debris and wreckage to years later fall ill with cancers and blood diseases that are all directly related to the time spent working.
YHC worked with many heroes that have become ill after those horrific attacks. There was Patty. A union delegate, a cops cop, a good cop, a great person. He was selfless. He was funny. He had a sense of humor that could not be rivaled. He made being a cop in a place that didn’t make sense, bearable, enjoyable and fun.
If we were ever in trouble….we called Patty. If we needed advice….we called Patty. If we drank too much and needed a ride home ….we called Patty or if he was there with us…Patty made sure we were taken care of. When YHC was at his darkest of times, my FAMILY called Patty. And Patty did what he always did….made sure it was all going to be ok. And he took that attitude with him through his battles with cancer. No matter what happens…he’s ok or he’s going to be ok. When he spoke that way it gave us all hope.
Sadly Patty lost his battle on May 2, 2019. And I know today…..He’s ok. In better place than any of us taking the time to read this. So today in the gloom we laid it down and took our beating. For Patty. Continue to rest in Eternal Peace my Friend.
