Los Lobos de Depot

Conditions

50 degrees, crystal clear starry skies…..perfect conditions for a collision of worlds.  Paradigm shifting.

As usual, explicit lyrics below, you’ve been warned….

Foreskin

Saturday XL boot camps prior to Handball have been a “thing” at Depot for over a year now.  At times attendance has been strong, and less so at other times (particularly in that brutal winter of 2018/2019 long ago lest ye forget).

Admittedly, YHC was on the fence when seeing the Q sheet open for this Saturday.  It made the siren call of the fartsack very sweet, “bag the XL” it sang….”stay toasty in your bed and keep dreaming of winning the house cup in quidditch for Griffyndor”.

However, being the most disciplined and selfless PAX that Depot has ever known, of course, YHC snatched the Q quickly and willingly.  YHC knew that it was up to him and him alone to make sure his F3 brothers got their weekend dose of the #DRP.

Admittedly again, it didn’t go down exactly like that.  YHC pitched the open Q spot to Arrears to see if he was game for it.  The thought here being (see paragraph 1) that YHC could sleep in guilt free knowing the PAX were taken care of and arrive at Depot well rested, a few minutes prior to Handball, and watch the PAX from the cozy confines of his car while they finished Mary.  Well it turns out that….

YHC is not proud of that, but before you dismiss YHC as a selfish twat, read on as the story gets better from here.  After the initial reach out, Arrears said he wasn’t available.  This made YHC’s heart (which is 2 sizes too small) swell (with guilt mostly) and he then finally did the right thing and picked up the Q.  #redemption

Grace is a wonderful thing…..and it kept going from there as only a short time later Arrears DM’ed (I think that means “direct message” in Twitter, not Dungeon Master, so put away those polyhedral dice men…goblins and kobolds get to live another day) me to say he was in and that we should “co-Q”.

YHC was intrigued and nervous at the same time.  The thought of sharing a Q with another PAX, even one as skilled, with such potent sperm, and devilishly handsome looks as Arrears was a little worrisome.   YHC is a wolfpack of one, el Lobo Solo, a Maverick even….

….on the other hand, this wasn’t the junior high prom, there was much more at stake here than getting to second base with Amanda Hugginkiss (not her (or his) real name #intrigue).

Could it even be done???   An attorney and a geologist working together???

With Avengers: Endgame and avoiding spoiler alerts on everyone’s mind, I’ll spare you any here and ask that you read on.   I’ll just post this random photo for your enjoyment….make of it what you will.

Disclaimer, Warm Up

After a quick disclaimer, YHC, Moose, Bout Time, and Turkey Burger got rolling quickly and covered some familiar territory with YHC’s standby warm up drill….

  • SSH X 15 IC run to the bottom of speed bump hill
  • TTT X 15 IC run to the bottom of the first entrance
  • Windmills X 15 IC run to the top of the hill near the block pile while welcoming the arrival of Co-Q Arrears
  • IW X 15 IC

The Thang

Each PAX grab a block and head to the parking lot.  Line up with your block in front of you.  The Thang in YHC’s head was really a partner activity.  Since we had an odd number of PAX, we had to modify slightly.  Here’s how it worked:

  • Partner up – Moose/Bout Time and Turkey Burger/YHC
  • Arrears was the first lone Lobo, take a lap around speed bump hill, up the entrance road, and back to the parking lot, meanwhile……
  • Partner A – Farmer’s Carry the blocks across the parking lot and leave them, run back
  • Partner B does 10 reps of 2 exercises (Merkins/Big Boys) awaiting Partner A’s return
  • Partner B runs across, grabs one of the blocks, and Cusacks it back while Partner A is doing the exercise.
  • Partner A runs across and retrieves the last block and Cusacks it back while Partner B is exercising
  • Finally, Partner B Farmer’s Carry’s the blocks back across, runs back, while Partner A is doing the exercises.
  • Rinse and repeat the above until the runner returns, then the line shifts down and a new PAX becomes the lone Lobo and the other PAX Farmer’s Carry, Cusack, Big Boy, and Merkin till he returns and the process begins anew
  • Rinse and Repeat until all the PAX have run one time

Next the PAX circle up with their blocks and do the following with each PAX leading the different exercises:

  • 10 Block Rows IC
  • 10 Curls for the Girls IC
  • 10 Overheads IC
  • 10 Block Rows IC
  • 10 Curls for the Girls IC
  • 10 Overheads IC
  • 10 Block Rows IC
  • 10 Curls for the Girls IC
  • 10 Overheads IC
  • Tclaps to Arrears, Moose, Bout Time, and Turkey Burger for taking part in the Co-Q portion of this exercise
  • Tclaps to Turkey Burger for his beautiful falsetto counting voice……he ain’t just a pretty face y’all

From this point on, we handed the keys over to Co-Q Arrears for the balance of the show.

Our boy Arrears was determined to get our pecs ready for the beach, as you’ll see below (note YHC’s memory is a little foggy here, so the below exercises/reps may not be verbatim):

  • 20 Chest Presses IC
  • Rest with block in up position
  • 25 Chest Presses
  • Recover and rotate blocks to the left so someone new can have a turn with the Moose block (aka the Milkman block when Moose isn’t around)
  • 30 Chest Presses
  • Rest with block in the up position
  • 20 Chest Presses
  • High Plank for ~eternity*
  • Low Plank for ~infinity*
  • Return to High Plank for ~always and forever*
    • *YHC did not time the above, just what it felt like
  • 10 Big Boys OYO
  • 20 LBCs IC
  • 20 Flutter Kicks IC
  • 20 Chest Presses

BOM, COT, conclude XL BC.

Handball!

We lost Turkey Burger and Bout Time, but gained FN3, Pothole, Milkman, and about 30 minutes later JDee.  With only 7 PAX and a half-deflated Handball, we decided to call it a day and keep our Handball powder dry for The Ocho.  There was some great discussion here, you would have really enjoyed it.  We talked about all of your favorite things.

Think about that the next time you consider fartsacking. #FOMO

Moleskin

Tclaps to Turkey Burger, Bout Time, Moose, and Arrears for resisting the fartsack and helping each other (including YHC) get better.  The #DRP is a dish best served cold, but it goes down a lot easier when surrounded by your F3 brothers.

See Foreskin above, that pretty much covers the rest of it, although I’ll leave this right here for your viewing enjoyment…

Announcements

We are almost a third of the way through 2019, how are you coming on your 2019 goals?  Have you posted as much as you should have?  If no, get your six out to Depot or one of our other fabulous AOs and work that body.  Beach season is just around the corner and those ladies on the Redneck Riviera have paid good money for that #EyeCandy that is you.

Have you Q’ed as much as you should have (or even at all in 2019)?  If no, then stiffen that weinke up and get out there in the gloom and help a brother out.  Hell, even Co-Q it with your hot Colombian friend to spice things up a little.  You won’t regret it.

Reminder – your boy Neck Brace has the Fiddy/Fiddy challenge going on for all Lake Murray PAX.  It’s pretty simple, do 50 Merkins and 50 Big Boys each day (exclusive of boot camp….I know that part is a little BS, but YHC should have read the fine print before signing on  #attorneys).  There’s a Fiddy Fiddy group on the Coach Me App.  Only a few days left of this challenge so let’s finish strong!

The next month or so at Depot is shaping up to be a good one with some great Q’s on the agenda:

  • 4/30 – Arrears
  • 5/2 – Soft Toss

Unspoken

Devo

I pulled the below from a Youversion bible app plan called “Adventure Awaits – Stripping Away Distractions” by Gather Ministries.  As some of you know, I’m approaching a career transition and this one in particular resonated with me.  I shared just the first part and a few thoughts with the PAX today, but I offer it in full for your reading pleasure…

Anatomy of an Adventure

When men head off, toward something in the distance, toward something good and worthy—but also into unknown obstacles, detours, deprivations, dangers—those are adventures. We tend to think of them as journeys of ascent, like climbing to a summit. But are they, really? Aren’t adventures actually journeys of descent? And, actually, doesn’t therein lay their power? Our culture teaches that ascending brings us life: ascending in school; our careers; our social standing; in the sizes of our houses and our bank accounts. Our King, Jesus Christ, teaches the opposite. He teaches that we come alive, instead, by descending. And he teaches that we come alive by listening to God, trusting God, and relying on God.

That’s why adventures are so important. On them, we descend voluntarily. We forgo “comfortable” and “secure.” We welcome discomfort and danger. We relinquish control—all toward a far off, good and worthy goal. We put ourselves, quite literally, in the hands of God. On adventures, we allow him to teach and shape us, awaken and recharge us.

Jesus’ road to the cross was the ultimate adventure. He set upon something of immeasurable goodness and worth. He faced obstacles, detours, deprivations, dangers. He descended . . . but he didn’t do it so we wouldn’t have to. He descended to show us how. “Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it” (Matthew 10:39).

Okay, so what do we do?

Adventures are all around—great opportunities to descend into situations that’ll make you apprehensive, that’ll make your heart pound even: walking beside someone who isn’t at all like you, but needs your help nonetheless; confessing to brothers that thing you’ve never confessed to anyone; giving monetarily, until it hurts. Take some time, today—notice the adventures around you. Then, pick one and go.

TL:DR

Co-Q>Flying Solo>No-Q

Chest Presses = Hard

Time to get comfortable with being uncomfortable.

Only 215 days till Thanksgiving!
