By the end of almost 6.5 miles, the pax had built up quite a sweat.
Conditions: Warm with a chance of humidity. You know, Columbia in the summer.
The Thang: In order to vary the training work outs to as best simulate conditions on the BRR as possible (of course nothing here will compare), YHC thought a long steady climb through Forest Acres was in order. While not steep, the 2+miles up Sylvan between 2 and 3 % grades did just that. Then we threw in a couple of steeps for good measure at the end. Short climb up Briarfield and the Astascadero beast just before the very rewarding down hill to the rally point. (YHC was attacked once again by that beast of a hill.)
Here is the turn by turn:
Leaving from the Starbucks at Trenholm Plaza at 5:30 AM, turn left and then right onto Trenholm up to a left on Sylvan. Long steady climb up, not steep, but close to 2.5 worth of uphill running. Sylvan dead ends back at Trenholm, turn right and go 3 blocks and turn right onto Briarfield. Briarfield down to Bethel Church, turn left. At the BP station by Trenholm Park (there is a traffic light), be sure to bare to the left to stay on Bethel Church. Bethel Church up to Atascadero, turn right and down and back up the other side (we know this hill) to Forest. Turn left onto Forest and back down to the Starbucks.
