Nothing but work at The Surge

YHC hadn’t lead a workout at Surge since “Red October” so YHC was looking forward to leading these men and exploring the campus.  YHC wanted to do various exercises while also getting in some good cardio and full body work.  In the end, everyone pushed themselves and got better.

Conditions:  Mid 50’s

1min warning, Welcome, FNG’s, and Disclaimer…we Prayed and then got to work.

Mosey around the parking lot loop and head over to a grassed area for COP.

The Thang

Thinking of the first WO after the launch, KD had us do some good plank and bear crawl work and YHC thought it would be a good idea to do this again so here is what we did…

In the bus loop there are 7 cones spaced about 10 yards apart..plank walk to each cone and do 10 Mountain Climbers at each cone.  Rinse and repeat.

Next, bear crawl to each cone and do 10 Plank Jacks at each cone.  Rinse and repeat.

Recover and mosey over to the basketball court for an agility and strength circuit.

Starting at one corner, sprint to mid court of the first court, shuffle to the left across court, sprint to halfway courts, shuffle right across court, sprint to the other mid court, shuffle to left across court, sprint to the end line, and shuffle right across end line.  Then head over to playground and find a spot to do the following exercises and reps:

5 Pull ups

10 Dips

15 Merkins

20 Squats

Repeat Circuit x 3

Plank-o-rama when finished

PAX moseyed over to the brick pile and grab two bricks and then head back over to the bus loop and find two light poles.

Run to LP, 10 Brick Burpees

Run back to LP, 10 Jump Squats,

Run to LP, 8 Brick Burpees

Run back to LP, 8 Jump Squats

Run to LP, 6 Brick Burpees

Run back to LP, 6 Jump Squats

Recover and return bricks to the pile and mosey to the Shovelflag.

Everyone did work today…not a whole lot of mumble chatter with the group but everyone got better.  Certainly looking forward to getting back on the Q sheet at the home AO again.

Prayers for families in Florida

Honestly YHC had not heard about the shootings in Florida until after leaving the Surge workout.  Wasn’t sure what we were praying but we prayed for them.  Between work being busy and with Valentine’s Day and watching the Olympics on DVR, YHC was not aware of the 17 lives lost that day until I got in the car and turned on K-Love.  I knew immediately from the tone of the radio hosts that something bad had happened and it turns out that 17 people who went to school that morning were not coming home to their families.  I listened the rest of the way home and learned more details about what happened and became emotional thinking about my wife and three kids that I say “bye, love you” too each day.  It’s when I’m getting dressed and my 3-yr old wants to help daddy put on his belt – “daddy, I can do it” – and you think about all the “what ifs”.  It’s difficult to think about the families who did that earlier in the day and won’t be able to say that again to their loved ones.  These situations are times when we need to sit back and be thankful for ALL that we have, hug the kids and M, and continually pray for them.
