Reunion

The AOs of Speedtrap and the Roost took to a reunion of sorts with a mini-convergence at the original Chapin F3 stomping grounds of Crooked Creek Park. 13 PAX overcame the warm confines of the fartsack to join in the reunion and get better. We’re in the middle of March and it’s still freakin’ freezing out here Mr. Bigglesworth. The much anticipated and expected mumblechatter when bringing our AOs together was in high gear and did not disappoint. The PAX came ready to work so I gave it my best (or worst) shot. Disclaimer given, no FNGs, here we go.

Conditions:

Low 30s, still cold

The Thang:

Warm up mosey to the grassy knoll for COP:
–          SSH x 15 IC
–          20 Merkins OYO
–          TTT x 6 IC
–          20 Merkins OYO
–          Imperial Walkers x 15 IC
–          20 Merkins OYO

Mosey through the trail to Chapin Intermediate School. Hold people’s chair on the six.

CIS bus loop for suicides. Run to first street light, do called exercise. Run back to start for same exercise and # of reps. Run to 2nd light for exercise, repeat til through 3 lights on the loop.

Round 1: 10 Burpees – 50 total (#crowdpleaser)
Round 2: 20 Big Boys – 100 total
Round 3: 20 Mtn Climbers (double count) – 100 total

Mosey to CES parking lot in front of office for 4 corners. Do called exercise and number of reps at each corner. YHC’s judgment was called into question on this one for safety concerns, as the last two corners are technically on the highway! No problem I said, we’ll be okay. Just watch out for the school bus coming towards us on the right and the mud puddles and pot holes on the left.

Round 1: 15 merkins – 60 total
Round 2: 15 LBCs – 60 total
Round 3: 15 squats – 45 total (only completed 3 corners due to time)

I’m happy to report that no PAX were injured during the fulfillment of this part of the workout.

Mosey back to the flag. No time for Mary.

Talk to Yourself

Dr. James Gills accomplished the remarkable feat of completing a double triathlon (two triathlons back to back with only a 24-hour break). Even more remarkable is that Gills completed a double triathlon six times, and the last time he did it he was 59 years old. When asked how he did it, he gave the best advice I’ve ever heard. He said, “I’ve learned to talk to myself instead of listen to myself.” He memorized scripture and would recite it to himself when he needed a boost. Gills continued, “If I listen to myself, I hear all the reason why I should give up. I hear that I’m too tired, too old, too weak to make it. But if I talk to myself, I can give myself the encouragement and words I need to hear to keep running and finish the race.” It’s the same way with life. Too often we listen to ourselves and hear all the complaints, self-doubt, fear and negativity that lead to unhappiness, failure, and unfulfilled goals. But just because you have a negative thought doesn’t mean you have to believe it. Many of your negative thoughts come from fear and the truth is that fear is a liar. I’ve learned that instead of listening to the negative lies, we can choose to feed ourselves with the positive truth. We can speak truth to the lies and fuel up with words, thoughts, phrases, and beliefs that give us the strength and power to overcome our challenges and create an extraordinary life, career, and team. Whatever comes your way, just keep running, stay positive, talk to yourself (instead of listening to yourself), and make sure you celebrate and raise your hands in the air when you’ve reached your destination!
