Preblast: The Devil’s Mile – 12/8/14

So the Go Ruck is over.  Maybe you did it.  Maybe you didn’t.  Maybe unforeseen circumstances prevented you.  You bought the gear.  You found the weight.  You had fun.

Now what?

I’ll tell you what: you’re gonna do another Go Ruck.  Don’t kid yourself.  We both know you’re already thinking about it.  Maybe next month.  Maybe next year.  But there is a Go Ruck in your future. Whether you’re looking at a Light, a Heavy, or another Challenge.  You’re hooked.  There is one common denominator to any of these…training.  Ruck training.  Strength training.  Preparation.

Maybe Go Ruck isn’t for you, but you want that workout that challenges how far you think you can push yourself.

Enter: The Devil’s Mile.

Traditionally, The Devil’s Mile is 4 separate exercises equaling 1 mile in distance.  Preferably under weight.  2 things are guaranteed: 1, it will indeed suck worse than most workouts you’ve done. 2, it’s going to make you better in the long run.  If you don’t have a ruck with weight, it’s still going to suck – and you’re still welcome to attend.  You don’t need a $300 Go Ruck, but you’ll want anything that can hold the weight you want to carry.  Consider you’ll be bending over for bear crawls, so ensure your weight will not come out and smack you in the back of your melon.  But if your Jansport from high school can still hold some books, bring that.  Weighted vest is also acceptable.  Anything that will create resistance.

The Thang:
Under weight (preferably) perform the following:
1/4 mile Bear Crawl
30 Merkins
1/4 mile Lunges
30 Squats
1/4 mile Duck Walk (carry your ruck in front of you)
30 Overhead Squat Presses (your ruck)
1/4 mile run/walk with your ruck raised overhead

We’re not timing this – although you can time it if you want.  This is more to see if everyone can make it.  This WILL kick your butt.  But you’ll get better at it – like everything else.

Inaugural Devil’s Mile is scheduled for Foxhole on Monday, December, 8.  Wheels up at 0500. We’re allotting an hour.

Why?

We’re men.  Why not?  We’re gluttons for punishment.  But mostly, because these are exercises you will experience during any Go Ruck event.  And since we both know you’re gonna do one – no time like the present to start preparing.

Aye!
