Notes from Goat: Region Wide Q-ish – Thursday, August 13

I like to Q.  So, I sign up for it a lot.  I’m usually at Depot.  However, I also like to travel.  I enjoy the other Lake Murray AOs, such as Goat and Foxhole. So, I will post up and Q at those places from time to time.

About a week or so ago, I signed up to Q at Goat.  I had a vague plan of what the workout would be; however, nothing was definite.  This past Sunday, I got a DM from Uncle Rico, confirming that I was going to Q on Thursday and whether I’d be using the Region Wide Workout that had been developed for that day, which he sent along. I glanced, but did not study the workout, and then clicked off.  Admittedly, I did not look at the workout again until Thursday morning.

So, Thursday rolls around and I get to Goat.  I click back on Twitter to my DMs and look at the workout and see “.25 mile buy in (run)” and think “We’ll start with an Indian Run and then get going with the exercises as they were laid out in the workout.”

So here’s what happened:

Conditions: In the 70’s; dry; humid; paved.

COP

My favorite way to start:

-20 SSH (IC);

-10 Merkins (IC);

-15 SSH (IC);

-5 Merkins (IC); and

-10 SSH (IC).

The Thang

Indian Run from flag to front of CAT.  More or less .25 mi.

This is where things fell apart-ish.

So, the preplanned workout said this:

“40 seconds on, 20 seconds off.  3 rounds each exercise. Complete each round, then move on to next exercise.

-Burpee

-Block swings

-Merkins

-Squat Thrusters

-Straight Leg Dead Lift

-Curls

-Tricep Ext

-Shoulder Press

-Mountain climbers

-LBCs

-Plank jacks

-American Hammers.”

Before we got going, Neckbrace said: “Don’t we need a block?” Fair question. The correct answer was “Yes”; however, by the time we got over to the front of CAT, we obviously didn’t have a block.  So, we improvised. The mumble chatter ensued.

So, here’s how we did it.

On one side of the parking lot, do the first exercise.  40 seconds on; 20 off. 3 rounds.  Once complete with the exercise, we ran to the other side of the parking lot and did the next one.

“Is this is run group.”

Here’s the exercises we did, 40 on and 20 off, with the running:

-Burpees;

-Merkins;

-LBCs;

-American Hammers;

-Plank jacks.

With the additional running, by the time we got through those exercises, it was about 0625 or so.  From there, we Indian Ran back to the blocks down the other side of the high school (so we got the full loop in).

At the blocks, 40 seconds on and 20 off:

-Curls;

-Overhead Presses.

Admittedly, that was enough for YHC.  After we put up the blocks, we circled back up at the flag for some Mary.

-Flutters (YHC);

-Freddie Mercury (Rico);

-Boat/Canoe (Slate).

Mumble chatter was strong.  But at the end of the workout, the questions could be asked: (1) Did we get work in; and (2) Did it cost you anything.
