CONDITIONS
Partly cloudy with a half-full moon, ~70 degrees, perfect conditions! Nine pax gathered behind Speedo’s truck to find a couple of Amazon boxes, a deck of Skipbo cards, and an as yet to be revealed dry-erase board. #Mystery
WARM UP
Usual disclaimer then warm up with:
- SSHs x 10 IC
- IWs x 10 IC
- Hillbillies x 10 IC
- LBACs x 10 IC FWD
- TTTs x 10 (wait, what?)
- LBACs x 10 IC REV (that’s better)
Skip the usual run, some complaints from Hostel’s undiagnosed OCD,
Count off by “A’s” and “B’s”, grab a block, return to the back of Speedo’s truck for further instruction.
THE THANG
Today’s instructions probably should have been sent in an email prior to the workout….
or maybe in a well crafted and humorously prepared venn diagram…
but instead the #MenOfDepot (who are a lot better at talking than listening) were presented with the whiteboard below:
Today’s Q was a “choose your own adventure” Q. The goal was to complete each of the exercises on the board above. You could do them in any order you choose, break them up into smaller chunks, etc. Today’s twist; however, was that each time you completed a box you earned a card for your team and would put it in the respective box. To make the math easy, cards <10 were worth 5 points, 10 or more with 10 points, and the elusive skipbo cards worth 20 points (or zero if you are Soccer Mom). Winning team gets a “prize”.
Whilst the workout was ongoing we listened to a medley of mostly 80’s and 90’s rock/pop songs to motivate us. Results summarized in MOLESKIN below.
With 5 minutes left, we put blocks up for a little Mary consisting of:
- Moose – Butterfly Stretch (or “taint stretch” for those that want to be anatomically precise
- Hostel – Rosalita’s x 10 IC
- YHC – Freddy Mercurys x 10 IC
- Lumbergh – Flutter Kicks x 10 IC
- Bird Strike – Toe Stretches
- Laettner – Iron Crosses x 10 OYO
BOM, COT, End Workout
MOLESKIN
There was a lot of running/reps in today’s Q. Based on the number of cards, I’d say most PAX got about 80% done with the workout and our lone finisher was Soccer Mom, so TClaps to him. TClaps also to Speedo for use of his truck and his celebratory birthday “sweets” he brought for the collective.
I don’t recall who was on each team, but team B had one less person so they got to draw 4 bonus cards. Here’s the final tally by various metrics:
Total Cards:
- Team A = 49
- Team B = 52
Total Points (<9 =5, 10+ =10, Skipbo = 20)
- Team A = 155 + 90 + 180 = 425 points!!!
- Team B = 170 + 130 + 100 = 400 points!!!
As we ran out of time before being able to count all the cards up, we declared Team B the winner. Their prize was first pick from an autumnal selection of libations from brewer patriot Sam Adams. Needless to say a good time was had by all.
In other news, I shared with the team that last week I heard news of the unexpected passing of an old friend named Jay. Like me, he was a geologist, and he and I worked closely on an ~8 year long project. If not for his efforts, insights, and overall steady mind in the face of adversity, our project likely would not have succeeded and yours truly would likely never have landed in SC. Jay and I lost touch a bit over the last year or so, but he was a dear friend and mentor to me. His passing came as a surprise as he was an athletic guy who took care of himself, spent a lot of time outdoors being active (fishing, hiking, etc.), surrounded himself with loving friends and family (he leaves behind a wife and 4 college-age children). Point is, losing a loved one is a sobering reminder that none of us are guaranteed tomorrow. The clock continues to tick by, faster than we realize (47 years for me now), and all of us have some things we’d like to change or not leave undone for those around us.
So, if you are reading this, take 20 seconds and say that thing you’ve been meaning to say or start on that thing you’ve been putting off.
