Salute to Veterans

14 Patriots shot the fartsack in the heart and posted for a cool Veteran’s Day Even morning to honor the Veterans of this great country.  Dorn VA Hospital put up a lot of red tape, but we persevered and managed to pay tribute and respect without getting arrested.

Conditions: about 50 and dark.

The Thang: Original plan was to workout on the VA’s campus and try to greet and thank Vets as they arrived early for out-patient appointments and pray with any who wanted to join us during COT.  JarJar and Squint worked very hard to make this happen, but we couldn’t get approval until next year.  VAPD said they would run us off we exercised on campus.  Serena posted up at the VA early to make sure no one tried to workout on campus and joined us once we did our run-by. T-Claps to these 3 men for their help in planning this workout.  If we start now, maybe we’ll be able to workout and pray on campus with Veterans next year.

We carried the flag at the front of the line for an Indian Run from the AO down Olde Knight Pkwy, turning right on to Chambly, then left onto Queen’s Way, then right onto Old Woodlands and right onto Garner’s Ferry with pain stations at Black Friars (SSH x 25 IC, IW’s x 25 IC, Squats x 25 IC, Merkins x 20 IC) and at Indian Mound (Mtn Climbers x 20 IC, Carolina Dry Docks x 15 IC).  When we arrived at the front of the VA, we did a minute of silence while holding high plank to honor those Veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice.  Fortunately, no one was arrested.  Serena reported high alert by VAPD.  We continued to run as a group (sidewalk is too narrow for Indian Run) down Garners Ferry and turned right onto Veterans to continue along the edge of the VA Campus.  We stopped in the grass by the side entrance to the VA for another pain station to wait for the 6: Flutter Kicks x 25 IC, Merkins x 10 IC, BBSitups x 25 IC, Low Country Crabs x 20 IC.  Ran back to the AO to the front of Meadowfield and proceeded to Dealer’s Choice where all pax took turns leading the workout.

Very special COT by Squint, who was injured and couldn’t workout with us, but who joined us in his civies to pass out thank you cards to give to Veterans and to share some inspirational quotes along with JarJar to remind us of the sacrifice of our service members and the freedoms we enjoy because of their service.

Moleskin: We have so much to be thankful and grateful for.  Don’t take our freedoms for granted.  Other people have fought hard and died for us to enjoy these things.  Thank a Veteran for his/her service and remember that Freedom isn’t free.  Dorn VA Hospital take note: we will be back and we will be on campus next year, just as soon as you say it’s ok.

Announcements: Thanksgiving DD at BrickPile at 6 and 7 am.  F3 Christmas party 12/15 at King’s Grant.  Business as usual on Christmas Eve.  No workouts on Christmas Day.  Enjoy the time with your family.  Hit up Serena or Beacon if you want to do the P200.  MudRun will go again in April.  Our numbers have been down since the flood.  Let’s reach out to the guys we know are missing.  They need this.  We need them to be here.  Call, text, e-mail, tweet, send a carrier pigeon, or just do some good old fashioned face-to-face EH’ing and let’s get our numbers back up to at least pre-flood levels.
