KG’s BD Q

6 PAX posted at the mosquito infested Woodshed this morning to help celebrate YHC’s 35th birthday, although they did not realize it was a birthday party until the COP began. I remember many moons ago posting to the Woodshed for a HeeHaw Q, realizing that we were painfully celebrating his 35th birthday. It was a memorable beatdown to say the least. I hope I did my part in continuing the trend of 35th birthday beatdowns at the ‘shed.

Tha Thang:

Disclaimer, followed by warm-up jog down Olde Knight, right on Galway, circle up by flagpole at front of the school.

COP

11 Merkins IC, 7 Monkey Humpers IC, 80…yes 80 SSH IC. 11-7-80, PAX starting to catch on. Just to be sure, 35 Imperial Walkers IC. Recover with 20 LAC Forward IC and 20 LAC Backward IC.

Line up single file for Indian run down Galway, to corner of Galway and I think Merrill. YHC considered heading over to #Marthas for some hill repeats, but it takes too long to get there. Instead, I am now calling this stretch of road on Galway from Merrill to Rockwood #MiniMartha. It is definitely a lesser grade hill than Martha, but it gets the job done and is much closer to the AO.

Run to the top of #MiniMartha, 5 burpees, back down, 5 big boy sit-ups. Plank and wait for 6. Back to the top, 5 burpees, back down, 5 slow and low squats. Run to pick up the 6, 5 more squats. Back to the top, 5 more burpees, back down, 5 slow and low merkins. Run to pick up the 6, 5 more merkins.

Run back up, stop at corner of Galway and Macon, more slow and low squats while waiting for 6. Run to the AO, then over to the brick cage for 2 bricks. Run over to blacktop where mosquitos aren’t quite so bad.

Line up on baseline, lunge walk with brick curls for the girls to mid court.

Overhead clap squats with bricks 20 (IC) (4 count move: 1. overhead clap, 2. arms parallel to gound, 3. squat, 4. up).

Line up at mid court, lunge walk with brick curls to baseline.

Shoulder press squats with bricks 20 (IC) (same counts as above)

Lunge walk back to mid court with brick curls.

Tricep Extension squat with bricks IC X20 (same as above)

Lunge walk to base line with brick curls

Arm raise squats with bricks 20 (IC) (same as above, alternating arms straight up to the front and down then squat, and arms up from the sides and down then squat).

People’s chair on the wall of school, holding bricks down beside. Bricks out front, someone give a 10 count, bricks back down. Bricks overhead, someone give a 10 count, bricks back down. Bricks to the side, someone give a 10 count, recover.

Mosey to the playground, partner up. Partner 1, 10 Man-makers (burpee with bricks–overhead press, down for a merkin, right row up, left row up, back up). Partner 2 does max rep pull-ups while waiting. Flip flop. Round 2 ,same thing, knock man-maker reps down to 6 for partner 1, max pull-ups for partner 2, flip flop. Round 3, same thing, knock man-maker reps down to 3 for partner 1, max pull-ups for partner 2, flip flop.

Bricks back to the brick cage, line up for a zombie walk. Single file line, lunge walk, last person in lines drop and does 5 merkins, then sprints to the front. Continue Indian Run style.

Circle up for Mary back at the shovel flag. 35 Flutter kicks IC, 35 LBCs IC, 35 Freddie Mercurys IC, series of Boat/canoes on command, Flutter kicks fast count, flutter kicks slow count…done.

Devo:

Matthew 6:27 – And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life?

From Max Lucado –                                                                                                                                The Bible’s most common word for “worry” is the Greek term: “merimnate.” The origin is “merimnao.” This is a compound of a verb and a noun. The verb is “divide.” The noun is “mind.” To be anxious, then, is to divide the mind. Anxiety chops up our attention, derails our purpose, and scatters our awareness in a dozen directions.

We worry about the past: what we said or did. We worry about the future: tomorrow’s assignments or the next decade’s developments. Anxiety takes our attention from the right now and directs it back then or up there.

The challenge is to keep our attention on the “right now.” Here is a resolve that I wrote and read often:

“Today, I will live today.
Yesterday is past.
Tomorrow is not yet.
I’m left with today.
So, today, I will live today.

Relive yesterday? No.
I will learn from it.
I will seek mercy for it.
I will take joy in it.
But I won’t live in it.
The sun has set on yesterday.

The sun has yet to rise on tomorrow.
Worry about the future? To what gain?
It deserves a glance, nothing more.
I can’t change tomorrow until tomorrow.

Today I will live today.
I will face today’s challenges with today’s strength.
I will dance today’s waltz with today’s music.
I will celebrate today’s opportunities with today’s hope.

Today.
May I laugh, listen, learn, and love today.
And, tomorrow, if it comes, may I do so again.”

Leave your problems with God. He does not need our help, counsel, or assistance. (Please repeat this phrase: I hereby resign as ruler of the universe.) When he is ready for us to re-engage, he will let us know.
