IronPax I, #Thunder Style

Knowing how hard it is to push the #Thunder pax, YHC grabbed a goodie from the broader nation and dropped the original IronPax challenge on them with a little adventure mixed in to keep things interesting.  IronPax?  Yeah, that was the crazy challenge F3Greenwood put together a while back.  And when Greenwood wants a challenge, they make it good.  So, #Thunder was a solid proving ground for the test.

Conditions:  Cold.

TheThang:

YHC tried to begin promptly but some of the #faithful… the usual #faithful that is… had not yet arrived and so an impromptu warmup was called in hopes a couple stragglers would show:

  • Crunches X 10
  • Overhead Press X 10
  • Little Baby Arm Circles X 10 & Flapjack  for 10 more in reverse
  • Drydocks X 10

YHC isn’t always very creative on the fly but the “COLD” acronym seemed to work and keep us on campus for an extra minute.

From there, we moseyed down King Street tucking into the parking lot at Shandon Methodist for the first round of the IronPax #1 challenge.  Rather than calling four sets all at once, the initial explanation was made and a single set of the following was done, all OYO with the pax planking once complete:

  • 50 Squats
  • 40 Situps
  • 30 Mercans
  • 20 Lunges
  • 10 Burpees

Once complete, we moved on putting in about 400 yards to the next stop up on Devine in the little dive parking lot between “Just the Thing” and “Just the Thing”.  Another set was called which wasn’t popular.

  • 50 Squats
  • 40 Situps
  • 30 Mercans
  • 20 Lunges
  • 10 Burpees

Then, moseying on around the corner on Maple we ran two blocks to the corner of Maple and Wheat.  To break things up and give the guys a sense of something different, YHC called the “COLD” set again from above.  It’s easy and so no one complained… until round number three of the IronPax challenge was called immediately thereafter:

  • 50 Squats
  • 40 Situps
  • 30 Mercans
  • 20 Lunges
  • 10 Burpees

And then we ran back towards Hand on Wheat ducking into the back side of Hand for a final and fourth round of:

  • 50 Squats
  • 40 Situps
  • 30 Mercans
  • 20 Lunges
  • 10 Burpees

So, as planned and established in the IronPax challenge, we did four sets with 400 yards (at least) between each set.  Time wasn’t tracked nor, therefor, will we score this one… it was really all just for fun.

With a little more time to enjoy the morning, YHC Q’d it up at the benches for:

  • 10 Dips
  • 10 Dips
  • 10 Dips
  • 10 Dips
  • 10 Dips

That wasn’t popular either…

Last, we headed back toward the shovel flag and were able to get in about five minutes of Mary before time expired.  Among the protractors, flutters and other ab exercises was called a new favorite…  the 6″ Little Baby Arm Circle.  It’s a whole lot harder to do little baby arm circles when lying on your six with your feet 6″ in the air.  Memorable.

COT & BOM.

McLovin closed out the morning with a healthy lesson in Christology.  Don’t let the meek and mild little baby Jesus image lying helpless in a manger fool you.  That little boy came into the world to die on a cross.  Christmas is a sweet time, a joyful time.  But be reminded that Jesus came for a purpose.
