Each year, The Palmetto Project, along with WIS-TV, sponsors Families Helping Families, a fundraising campaign to make sure needy families in our area have presents under the tree at Christmas. Each year, more than 3000 families benefit from the generosity of others. I simply cannot bear the thought of a child going without a gift from Santa at Christmas. Regardless of whatever circumstances brought their families to the place they’re in, the children are innocent.
The Palmetto Project has already selected the families. Our job is to help raise the money and to sponsor some families. Here’s how you can help:
- VOLUNTEER. F3 has six one-hour phone bank shifts at the WIS studio on Friday, November 28th (that’s the Friday after Thanksgiving, “Black Friday”) — 3 early morning shifts from 5:30am-8:30am, and 3 evening shifts from 4:30pm-7:30pm. If you can take a shift — even a partial shift — HC here or contact me (see below). You will be answering phones to take donations from people calling in. A script is provided, and it’s very simple. You will need to wear an F3 shirt. This is a crucial component for the Palmetto Project and a great opportunity to showcase F3. Who can forget Chaser and Ben Hoover doing pushups on the air while Dawndy Mercer counted last year?
- DONATE. Last year F3 passed a hat, raised over $1500, and sponsored 4 families. Can you spare a few dollars to help brighten a child’s Christmas? It’s easy.
- SHOP AND WRAP: The Target shopping spree is fun. We will divide up the list and attack the store to buy everything, then we’ll meet somewhere to get it all wrapped up. M’s and 2.0s are welcome and encouraged to attend.
- DELIVER. Someone with a truck or SUV will need to deliver the wrapped gifts to the FHF warehouse in West Columbia.
I was proud of our participation in the Families Helping Families drive last year. In a small way, we were able to directly impact our community and brighten the lives of 19 people experiencing difficulty in their lives by showing that we care. Fountainhead has asked me to Q this event. I hope you will join me again this year in supporting this cause that is near and dear to my heart.

If you’d like to participate in any of the four ways, please contact me by phone or text at (803) 467-6968 or email [email protected]. We also welcome your HC in the comments below.
Aye! Thanks Sway for leading this year. Count me in for an early telethon shift at WIS and any gift wrapping and delivery needs. What better way to start the day than serving kids.
HC to all except the phone bank, have to work that am and will be out of town that evening.
HC Blindside and No Show for the 5:30am shift.
I am a hard committ for any necessary spots.
HC for a late shift. I’ll be coming back into town that afternoon.
I can help man the phones that afternoon. Just let me know when you need me there and how long.
kim jong on the 530-630 pm slot…i’ll be heading to pickens county afterwards and i could use a little bonus good deed as we head up the road….
Count me in for an early slot as well. Looks like that’s 6:30 – 7:30?
Treadmill and TDY are already on for 5:30am. Will stay for 6:30 slot if you need us.
Fantastic! I’m hoping to give lots of people an opportunity, but I could very well need you guys to fill in at 6:30. As of right now, we need 1 more for Shift One (5:30-6:30am), two for Shift Two (6:30-730am), two for Shift Five (5:30-6:30PM) and three for Shift Six (6:30-7:30PM)
Aye! Recruiting as we speak. Not that I don’t want to work 2 shifts, but I would rather see more F3 shirts there. Let you know.
Shift One is full. Just got a HC from Dirtbag.
What are the shop/wrap and deliver times and dates?
All of that is TBD and depends on how many families we adopt. It will happen next week.
I’m a HC for the 6:30-7:30pm shift.
Turnbuckle, got you down for 6:30-7:30PM. Be at WIS at 6:15 with an F3 shirt on (blue if you have it). Also, please email me your contact info. Thanks.
