#Battle Race I

YHC realized mid week that the Battle Q was his and that his intended partner in crime was on the DL.  No problem… Q’ing the hardest workout in town with one hand tied behind my back is just part of the job description, right?  Rather than risk embarrassment (Q’ing 30 minutes of Battle is more than enough leadership for this guy) a throwback idea was dialed up in the form of a You-Against-You favorite, the always brutal Saturday morning OCR across the grounds of AC Flora.

Conditions: 50’s with a cool dampness

TheThang:

YHC put together a map… because it really was that complicated.  MapMyRun claimed it was 1.5 miles but with all the switchbacks, the ramps and hops, hard turns around the buildings, the GPS registered each lap at something closer to 2 miles… all on the AC Flora property.

The route started off between the gym and the ball fields, turned left uphill and then cut back through the school before turning right and heading toward the battle loop.  Once around the battle loop, the course continued by following the north side driveway to the far back corner of the school and then back down toward the fields.  Halfway back the pax again cut through the heart of the school before turning south down to the football practice field.  With the main football field under construction, the course cut up between the new field and the baseball field toward the tennis courts before turning east again around the tennis courts to loop back to the start.  Back and forth, back and forth… a lot of ground was covered.

Along the course, here were the listed obstacles:

1.  Scale the retaining wall on the left and guardrail then do Burpees X 10 in the grass
Then run right to tennis court stands
2.  Decline Mercans x 30 (yes, Derkins) on the tennis court bleachers
Climb Over the backstop Wall and around theater uphill
en route, go up and over a small set of stairs and bearcrawl down just to add some interest.
3.  Stepups x 15 each leg on the benches there outside the theater entrance.
Cut through breezeway ahead and turn left down into a little paved hole in the ground.
4.  Up/Down’s on the low wall x 10
Continue up and through next breezeway
5. Planter box jumps X 25
Continue through breezeway and around right to front of school
6. Bear crawl to the Battle Circle (about 100 ft)
7.  Burpees x 10 in the Battle Circle
Drop over the wall (carefully) & proceed to battle loop Pull up bars
8.  Pullups x 20
Then run the battle loop
9.  At the 3/4 point, Russian twists X 30 (each side)
Continue battle loop to parallel bars
10.  25 Dips on the parralel bars
Then exit the battle loop turning left out of the gate
11.  Bear Crawl between speed bumps
Proceed to parking lot ahead
12.  Parking space Burpees…
1 per space along the length of one island (about 15)
13.  Donkey Kong the ramp (climb the rails)
Run it down and then proceed around the building
14.  Up the stairs on the right, down the ramp, right, donkey kong the far ramp & run it down
Run past the dumpster enclosure and turn right through the school
15.  Bench Decline Mercans X 50
Then continue through the next breezeway
16.  Planter box jumps X 25
Run through breezeway left down to gym entry
17.  Run up the ramp to front gym steps
18.  Bear crawl down the steps and run down to practice fields
19.  Run a coupon (tire or battle pavers) to the opposite end and back (alternate: 30 Burpees if waiting for coupon)
Then Run to the far side and turn left back toward the school
20.  Scale the retaining wall
(alternate: 10 Burpees if unsafe)
Run right along the tennis court fence
21.  Scale the second wall and fence
Turn left at the top again up to intersection
22.  Russian Twists X 30 (each side)
Run back to #1

Rinse & Repeat

The first set was done as a group due to the obvious complexity of the course.  To keep the pax together, a number of excersizes were sprinkled in along the way including a solid plankorama beside the battle loop, some protractor work at the back-most corner of the campus with 50 flutters for good measure… and then 25 squats or so back down by the shovel flag because there wasn’t nearly enough leg work in this course.

After that first run through the course, the pax were cut loose.  about half the crew completed the course a second time and change which is brutally impressive.  When the clock hit 1 hour, we called it quits and rallied back at the shovel flag.

BOM & COT

Announcements:

  • #TheMission is looking for AO’s to support one weekend a quarter just to get new faces downtown.  Those guys are one of our most amazing and best kept secrets in F3Columbia.
  • F3Camden launched today with great success.  17 FNG’s and a solid showing of pax from across the midlands.  Look for an opportunity to get out there and support the new AO/Region.
  • F3Haiti is starting talks of a second trip int he fall.  If you’re interested, hit me up on twitter or via email.

NMM:

  • YHC saw Chaser this evening at a raucous wedding/reception and his shoulder was sore but stable. Hopefully no lasting damage was caused in our one and only injury of the morning.
  • Good to see Bronchitis can’t slow Splinter down.  Not 100% sure (it was well beyond my line of sight) but it appeared he was in the lead when time expired.  Rhonda, Cesspool and Misfire were also out front with McNugget closing fast.  We should sell tickets to watch Battle Race II.
