CONDITIONS
Nearly 50 degrees, slight drizzle, 5 PAX questioning the life choices that led them to the moist parking lot this AM, and wondering in general….
…..they hit the snooze button I suppose (does snooze do anything if you’ve set no alarm?). Nonetheless, 5 of Depot’s finest (well 4 + me) began our day off with a dose of the Red Pill. TClaps to Lumbergh, Bird Strike, Laettner, and Flash Dance for making it out to the impromptu Q (my 2nd in the last week).
WARM UP
Disclaimer, presentation of the basketball, and the following:
- SSH’s x 10 IC
- Imperial Walker’s x 10 IC
- Slow Squats x 10 IC
- TTT x 10 IC
- Overhead Arm Claps x 10 IC
- Run the loop, grab blocks, a ball, turn the lights on, and head to the basketball court for The Thang
THE THANG
Line up along the baseline, one PAX dribbles down to the far end of the court for a layup (round 1 and 2), a jump shot (round 3 and 4), or a long-range jumper (round 5). After the shot, the PAX passes the ball to the next in line and they do the same.
Meanwhile….other PAX are doing a series of exercises AMRAP while waiting their turn or after finishing shooting.
- R1 – AMRAP Rows
- R2 – AMRAP Curls
- R3 – STH in Place whole time
- R4 – AMRAP Thrusters
- R5 – AMRAP Squats
After each round our collective would be penalized based on the number of missed shots and either do full court sprints or burpees depending on the infraction.
THE GAME
At this point, we had 20 minutes or so left so we settled into a nice friendly game of 2 on 2.
But wait, FG, you have 5 PAX…
Correct dear reader…so PAX number 5 would be on the sidelines doing SSH’s until called up into the big show. This would happen anytime anyone made a basket, causing teams to mix and the scoring to be somewhat irrelevant. That said, some observations to be made about our combatants:
- Lumbergh is good at moving without the ball, or just in moving in general
- Laettner still has it, silky smooth as his namesake. Soon as he picked up the ball for that first layup it was evident
- Bird Strike continues building on his most interesting man of Depot reputation…bourbon, Bolivia, biplanes, and now basketball….is there anything this man can’t do?
- Flash Dance clearly has hooped it up before, was able to get more open than Waffle House this AM (speaking of Waffle House, we need a 2nd F Breakfast sometime post one of these 2nd F evening events)
- Old balls are hard to do much anything with….they don’t dribble well, get slippery when wet, and look kinda lumpy when inflated

Short and sweet here, have enjoyed shooting some hoops in a semi-competitive way for the first time in a number of years the last week. If you are reading this and interested in getting in on it, let’s do it.
