One Minute Warning, Disclaimer, Warm Up

In roughly 4 decades of traveling around the sun on the Big Blue Ball, YHC has learned that one must be adaptable and ready for change that comes his way.  With change comes opportunity (or something like that YHC thinks).

So, after some last minute finagling yesterday, the #MenofDepot decided to invade our brothers at Foxhole for a little XL boot camp, and just mayhaps, play a little handball on that field of theirs, which is by all accounts….

As you’ll see below, some more last minute finagling by the PAX that were no shows for handball, changed those plans a bit (finagling in German YHC believes is roughly translated to “fartsacking”…YHC will confirm later #Wikipedia).

Once the Depot flag was firmly planted in Foxhole soil a quick disclaimer was given by YHC.  There was some additional warning by Neck Brace that YHC wasn’t paying attention to…something about a hill….slippery….don’t bust your assess…probably wasn’t important.

The warm up included the following plus a healthy bit of mumblechatter (that extra 15 mins of sleep for Saturday gets the PAX a little bit chippy):

SSH x 15 IC

IW x 15 IC

TTT x 15 IC

Forward LAC x 9 IC

Reverse LAC x 11 IC

Then a quick mosey up the stairs and around the parking lot back to where we started where we found our very own Penthouse who had been exploring the grounds.

The Thang

As the planning for this Q was a little haphazard at best (new location, rust from YHC’s last Q a few months back, YHC volunteering to cover the Q for a PAX who shall remain nameless…..let’s just say his name rhymes with “coughed……moss”,  etc.) YHC wasn’t sure how Foxhole’s facilities would compare to Depot’s.

For example….would they have blocks?….would there be a garbage truck that threatened to run us over?……would Roll Tide show up to bag some Pokemon and check out our sweet asses???  It turns out the answer was “yes” to the first and “no” to the last two (YHC needs to get Roll Tide’s twitter info to add her to the chat).

Cinder blocks in hand, we scrambled up a slippery hill (safely and without incident) and back to the parking lot where YHC produced a 6 sided die and a weinke.  The instructions were simple…each PAX would take turns rolling the die and the number would correspond to an exercise:

1.  Merkins – OYO

2.  Curls – IC

3.  Overhead Presses – OYO

4.  Mountain Climbers – IC

5.  Rows – IC

6.  Burpees – OYO

Additionally, the number of reps would start at 20 and then work down to 1 as the Q proceeded.  Only rule is that you re-roll if you get the same exercise as the previous PAX.

The well prepared (or at least half way competent) Q would have diligently recorded or memorized the number and sequences of exercises, but YHC was in charge today…..

…so there’s that.

I can say that a helluva lot of curls and only one round of mountain climbers were done.  I even think at one point the PAX cheered when burpees were rolled instead of curls.  Fun was had by all!

We then again safely navigated the slippery hill without any issues at all.  Foxhole’s blocks carefully stored in their proper place, we headed back up the slippery hill (again safely, and without incident) and grabbed the only dry patch of ground under some awning for Mary to finish out the boot camp.

As with before, YHC practiced delegation and let the PAX pick their own exercises for Mary.  To keep with the “lucky” theme we had with all the curls, we did 13 reps of each of the below:

LBCs, “Russian Hammers”, Big Boys, Freddie Mercuries, and LBCs

We moseyed to the parking lot to find JDee, Milkman, and cousin Eddie…..

not that Cousin Eddie, but Milkman’s actual cousin Eddie visiting from Rock Hill.

We waited and debated for some time for other PAX to show.  When it was clear the handball quota was not going to be reached, 5 of the PAX headed to Chick-Fil-A to complete the double-down.

Moleskin

This is YHC’s 2nd “winter” (let’s not get technical here) as a member of F3.  As with last year, the numbers we see of men posting are lower than they were in the summertime.  It’s understandable.  It’s not unexpected.  It’s getting colder and has been unseasonably rainy.  Each PAX must make a choice and that is his and his alone to make.  I’m not here to judge, only to encourage.  I’ll leave the judging up to those more qualified….

That said, no matter the weather, if you aren’t posting you are missing out on a fantastic opportunity to connect with your fellow PAX.  The suffering we share when we post in the gloom (whether caused by shitty cold and rainy conditions or some douche continuing to roll 2’s every time….I’ve had enough curls already Lumbergh, ok???) is a big part of the 2nd F (Fellowship) of F3.  It’s the “glue” described in Freed to Lead.

So forget the bonds forged by collective suffering a moment.  According to Science, the average child laughs 400 times per day….the average adult…only 20 (Wikipedia, 2018).  We should do better than that.  If you aren’t posting, you are missing out on a helluva lot of potential laughter.  Some funny stuff happens in the gloom and good conversations are had at coffeeteria afterwards as well.  Why, just today in coffeeteria we learned:

  • Lumbergh once had a torrid affair with a Bollywood actress;
  • JDee knows more about the island nation of Belize than anyone YHC has ever met;
  • Neck Brace’s tech skills is the envy of most millennials (or he frequents chick-fil-a so much they just have his order ready when he walks through the door);
  • Moose maintains a pathological fear of singing animatronic bears;
  • Fool’s Gold is only slightly taller than the average Mayan;
  • and a variety of other sordid tales you would know if you posted.

So anywho, I could just say….

but that’s not particularly encouraging.  Let’s go with….

TClaps to Penthouse, Lumbergh, Neck Brace, and Moose for braving the conditions for Boot Camp and JDee, Milkman, and cousin Eddie for doing the same to try to make handball a go!
