Tour de Batesburg-Leesville

All across the nation this morning temperatures dropped from “holy smokes that’s cold” to “instant death”. In our little corner of the world out here on the wild, wild, west side of F3 Lexington the the thermometers indicated “yikes, I forgot my hat”.

Conditions: 25 degrees, dry, no breeze

A few pax made their appearance at the at the AO about 10 minutes ahead of time to get a little bit of a warm up going. On mornings like this is good to get the blood flowing to the muscils so they don’t tighten up in the cold.

YHC put his name on the Q sheet but what to do. This is not exactly the kind of conditions that would be good for intervals or sprinting. A long sustained run it is then. The perfect route for that would be the Tour de Batesburg-leesville, also known as the Fulmer Harware challenge. Leave the Rooster, run past main street in Batesburg and back through main street in Leesville.

YHC wanted to get loosened up because the challenge had been laid down the previous night on the DM board and well if you can’t do it, don’t Q it.

The route:
Take a Right out of the parking lot headed toward HWY 245 on College street
Cut across to Francis (which has a really nice hill)
Right on Hwy 23
Left on Fulmer St (don’t forget to leave a nasty finger print on the window of the hardware store)
Left on RailRoad
Right on N. Carolina Ave
Left on HWY1
Left on Main St in Leesville and all the way back to the Rooster

Our quirky little running/rucking/bike riding AO out here on the far west side is only 45 minutes, where as the rest of the run groups are an hour. This route is 5.2 miles, which mean the runners would have to maintain a pretty impressive pace of under 8.30 min/mile to complete. The Q gave the men various options on how to modify the route.

Turning at Mitchel street would limit the route to 3 miles
Turning at N. Carolina Ave would limit the route to a little under 4
Turning at school house rd would limit it to just over 4.

Like Carl Marx said, “to each according to his need, from each according to this ability”. He must have been thinking about routes for a run group when he said that.Fits this situation perfectly.

Some men find Francis street unappealing and decided to run down main and turn right on 23 at that point and then turn around on Fox St at the Baptist church and come back which also resulting in 5.2 miles.

T-claps and kudos to all for a strong showing on a day where it was likely much more pleasant in the fartsack.

Prayers: SK and Doodle, Teachers Pet’s 2.0, YHC grandmother and sick kids,
Praise: Stay Puff back out running
