This Workout Goes to 11

I’m very glad I accepted the invitation to Q at Smokehouse. Because of its distance from my house, I’ve only been out there one time (for a Boucher-led anniversary Q). This morning was designed to be so brutal that they’d regret the day they asked me to come out for a visit. The extreme cold would only make what I had planned worse and threatened to keep the numbers low, but a surprising turnout of 11 PAX left the warmth of the fartsack behind and dared to endure what I had cooked up in my devious mind.

What I encountered once we got started was NOT what I had anticipated. These men were actually appearing to enjoy themselves and the foolishness I was proposing. This made me dig even deeper into my bag of tricks which was answered with a willingness to push through the suck that made me proud to be in this group’s presence. Job well done, men!

Here’s how it all went down…

MARY
8-CT. T-PLANK MERKINS X 11 IC
* This was suggested earlier in the workout, and since we were already ridiculously spent I thought “What the heck! Let’s do it!”. An 8-ct. T-Plank Merkin is basically just two T-Plank Merkins that count as one. So… we finished this workout with 22 T-Plank Merkins. TClaps to Ace (I believe it was him) for suggesting these.

DEVO
In all the cold and business at the end of the workout, I failed to share the devo I had planned. Please read it and allow God to speak to you how He will…

Proverbs 10:17
“People who accept discipline are on the pathway to life, but those who ignore correction will go astray.”

I recently accepted the challenge to read one chapter of Proverbs per day for the month of January. In addition to reading and reflecting, I decided to share what resonated most with me with two groups – some F3 brothers to whom I’m accountable and my wife and two college-aged kids. The process of sharing my reflections, especially with my family, has yielded some encouraging results. First, having assumed my place as a spiritual leader in my family, something I’ve not always done, my wife and kids have expressed their appreciation and excitement over doing this little study. Next, by placing a value on their reflections it has given them a voice in communicating their understanding of the Scriptures. It’s still a new discipline for me, but I can’t wait to see how this process of sharing the Word in this way continues and what comes from it.

I intended to challenge the men to seek God’s wisdom, found in His word, and then share it with the people around them, especially their families. I believe what will come out of this would be extremely powerful and beneficial to us all.

As always, it was a pleasure to stand among and lead these men. I look forward to seeing them in the gloom soon.
