Tabata Tunes: Star Wars Edition

Today was already going to be a big day for me. It was my return to the Q after a three-week absence while I’ve been nursing a fractured rib. While I’m not 100% yet, I was motivated to make it back to Q by this date. You see, for each of the last three Star Wars movies, I’ve come up with a Star Wars-themed workout, and since today is the opening of the test Star Wars film, I wanted to keep the tradition alive.

A big part of this tradition is the memory of our brother Cheech. He always enjoyed these workouts and laughed at the renamed execs or suggested additional ideas. It’s impossible for a day like this to pass without thinking of him and having fond memories.

Another reason this morning was special was that we as a region were to be honoring Badger, a brother who like Cheech is gone too soon, leaving behind a wife, children, and many fond memories. Being a native of Wisconsin like Badger, I was especially honored to be leading the men today. Not only would we wear read, but we would do a special final set of exercises in his honor. More on that later.

I did a slight change of pace from my typical Star Wars Q and instead of renaming exercises, I decided to go to the Tabata well and do some Star Wars-related tunes to guide our workout.

What follows is a breakdown of the Star Wars heavy tabata-tunes workout that the PAX completed.

MOSEY to upper playground. Stop for plank-o-rama while the 6 catches up.

* I had joked with Quisenberry that I was going to replicate his workout from Tuesday and substitute T-Plank Merkins for Burpees. I did so up until this point. It was good for a slight Quis-chuckle, and I think he was at least considering that I might just do it.

* We ended with a tribute to Badger. Anyone who know University of Wisconsin football knows that between the third and fourth quarters of every home football game they ply the song “Jump Around” by House of Pain while the entire stadium jumps up and down over and over. It’s something that really needs to be experienced to be truly understood. Our tribute included PAX calling out exercises during each tabata segment.

ROUND 6 – “Jump Around” by House of Pain
Quisenberry: Flutter Kicks
Wapner: Boat
Treadmill: Heel Touches
Fry Daddy: American Hammer
