Surviving the Cut – Escape and Evade

12 PAX conquered the fartsack to post on a down right balmy 30°+ Saturday morning.  It was more than a Breakfast Club, it was an opportunity to get better and be better.

The Thang

Mosey to parking lot in front of out door work-out area.

COP

  • SSH IC x20
  • TTT IC x11
  • Windmill IC x20
  • Imperial Walkers IC x20
  • Merkins IC x 15

Pax divides into groups of 3

Make way to the turf work-out area.

Four stations:

  1. Wall Burpees: Each group of three does a combined 35 before everyone rotates to next station.
  2. Wheelbarrow race
  3. Dips AMRAP until Wall Burpee group is done.
  4. Decline merkins on the tires (YHC had to punt on this one. I had in mind that the groups would take turns doing tire flips, but I wasn’t able to do it. If you can’t do it, don’t Q it” So had to change it to decline Merkins).

Low plank for a minute and pray for the members of your squad.

Mosey to bottom of hill. 1 squad member sprints up and down the hill while remaining 2 members perform a low side plank. When sprinter returns he starts low plank, 3rd one switches side, 2nd one sprints etc. etc. until all three have sprinted.

Mosey to bridge entrance.

  • LBAC IC 15 forward and 15 backward.
  • LBCs IC x 30
  • Bear Crawl from bridge entrance to the first bend while singing RHCP’s “Under the Bridge”

Mosey to upper practice field to acquire bricks and blocks.

“Escape and Evade” or “Get chased by Ranger while carrying Blocks and Bricks”

YHC was inspired by the show “Surviving the Cut” on Discovery Channel (and Netflix until they stupidly removed it. It was the best show).

Anyway, one of the training iterations that candidates for the 160th SOAR ( the Night Stalkers) used to have to complete was to simulate carrying heavy equipment from a crash site through enemy territory. The instructors would make life miserable for the candidates and basically grow their character in various ways. “spiritual training through physical means” is one way that they put it.

For our purposes each squad of 3 had to transport three bricks and 2 blocks through the entire wooded track/running path. The squads had to stay together the entire time, leaving no man behind. The catch was that Ranger (who carried a cinder block) was the chaser. If he tagged a squad member that entire squad had to do a combined 75 merkins right there on the trail. A second tagging would result in 75 combined squats. Ranger gave the squads a head start, but not much of one.

Blue screen led the pax in a closing, flutter kick/six inches combo.
