RETURN TO THE HERD/REMEMBERING D-DAY

Excited to get back to the Herd.  It has been way too long.  Can’t believe the new construction of Northside Middle University.  That wasn’t there last time YHC visited the Herd.  Looks plenty of new opportunities for The Herd when that Taj Mahal opens up.

Anyway, falling a day after the 74th Anniversary of D-Day, YHC decided to share a little story of a relative who survived Omaha Beach.  We certainly missed some of the regulars of The Herd.  Maybe those that attended can share next week what they missed.  Here goes:

Conditions:  70 degrees and delightful

No FNGs

The Thang:

We kept the numbers 6-6-19-44-74 close to our hearts this morning.  6/6/1944 for D-Day and 74 for yesterday’s 74th anniversary of the invasion of Normandy and the storming of Omaha Beach.

Warm-up

Windmills x 6 IC

TTTs x 6 IC

SSHs x 44 IC

mosey over to Blocks set up in parking lot.  we numbered off 1-6.  #1 would run to the first glow stick (19 strides) and then to the second glow stick (44 strides) and then to the 3rd glow stick (returning to the PAX in 74 strides).  While the runner was running, the PAX did work in two sets of six.  Everybody catching on now….6-6-19-44-74.  When the runner returned, #2 ran.  When runner #2 returned, #3 ran…and so on until YHC finished up the run route.  The object was to get back to your brothers as quickly as you could while they were beating themselves up over and over and over again doing the following sets of exercises.

Shoulder Taps on blocks x 6/Hand Release Merkins x 6 and repeat until everyone had run the course

Merkins on blocks x 6 / Shoulder Press with block x 6 and repeat until everyone had run the course

Monkey Humpers x 6 / Squats x 6 and repeat until everyone had run the course

Flutter Kicks  x 6 / Hello Dolly x 6 and repeat until everyone had run the course

Chest Press with blocks x 6 / Curls with blocks x 6 and repeat until everyone had run the course at least once

In between each set of exercises, YHC shared the story of Raymond Mays (his wife’s grandfather) who just a few years ago on 6/6/2010 shared his personal experience at Omaha Beach with a local Virginia newspaper.  The PAX got a little bit of the story each time we finished a set of exercises and everyone had run the course.

Back to the shovel flag.  Really appreciate the Herd letting YHC share this story today and hope the PAX enjoyed it and got a little something from it.  Make it a great day, dudes.  You were awesome this morning!
