Another Shawshank Q from Cheers

Good times at Shawshank today…as long as you enjoyed the sounds of voices loudly breaking the otherwise eerie silence of empty soccer fields. Those voices were speaking more about fantasy football and how sorry the Gamecocks are rather than putting in the work to get better.

Some may say that this is mumble chatter and is just some 2nd F with their friends. This is not mumble chatter. Mumble Chatter is making fun of the Q between deep breaths or when you criticize the Q while putting in work with all that you have, especially when it’s easy exercises. The 2nd F is important, but there is a time and a place for that. The 5:30am call to action is about the 1st F. As long as you are doing the 1st F to the best of your ability, then you can have the 2nd F, otherwise, you can’t do both. Coming from a grumpy old man nowadays, this is an unwelcome signs of times changing at Shawshank. YHC, for one, will not stand for it. Shawshank is supposed to be the standard. We always have been. That’s what it will be, even if some feelings have to be hurt. Let’s do better.

See below on how it went today for our workout…glad to be back:

Devo: What does it mean to be Born Again: As Jesus talked with Nicodemus, He said, “‘I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.’ ‘How can a man be born when he is old?’ Nicodemus asked. ‘Surely he cannot enter a second time into his mother’s womb to be born!’ Jesus answered, ‘I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, “You must be born again”’” (John 3:3–7 (bibleref.com/John/3/John-3-)). The phrase translated “born again” can also be translated as “born from above.” Nicodemus had a real need. He needed a change of his heart—a spiritual transformation that could only come from above. New birth, being born again, is an act of God whereby eternal life is imparted to the person who believes (2 Corinthians 5:17 (bibleref.com/2-Corinthians/); Titus 3:5 (bibleref.com/Titus/3/Titus-); 1 Peter 1:3 (bibleref.com/1-Peter/1/1-Pe); 1 John 2:29 (bibleref.com/1-John/2/1-Joh); 3:9 (bibleref.com/1-John/3/1-Joh); 4:7 (bibleref.com/1-John/4/1-Joh); 5:1–4 (bibleref.com/1-John/5/1-Joh), 18 (bibleref.com/1-John/5/1-Joh)). John 1:12–13 (bibleref.com/John/1/John-1-) indicates that being “born again” also carries the idea of becoming “children of God” throu gh trust in the name of Jesus Christ. The question logically comes, “Why does a person need to be born again?” The apostle Paul in Ephesians 2:1 (bibleref.com/Ephesians/2/Ep) says, “And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins” (NKJV). To the Romans he wrote, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” ( Romans 3:23 (bibleref.com/Romans/3/Roman) ). Sinners are spiritually “dead”; when they receive spiritual life through faith in Christ, the Bible likens it to a rebirth. Only those who are born again have their sins forgiven and have a relationship with God.
