4 Years of Fun at Depot

As we move into spring and the temperatures are on the rise, so was the pax count this morning.  22 pax (including 2 FNG’s: welcome Love Boat and Mister Mister) beat the fartsack and rolled into Depot for YHC’s 4 year anniversary Q.  Thanks to each one of you for being there if I’ve known you for 4 years, or today was your first day.

The Thang:

YHC gave the disclaimer and welcomed the 2 FNGs and moved the heard to the bottom of the entrance hill for SSH x 15 IC.  The group then moseyed to the other Depot entrance for Imperial Walkers x 15 IC.  We continued up the hill to the top of Byrd Rd for Mountain Climbers x 15 IC.  We began our mosey back down the hill to the first entrance for Merkins x 10 IC.  Mosey back to the parking lot and did some little arm circles (forward and back) x 10 IC.

YHC instructed the group to grab a block from the pile and head to the upper soccer field and meet in the middle.

At this point, it was time for some 4-corners

  • Corner 1: Merkins x 20
  • Corner 2: Big Boy Sit-ups x 20
  • Corner 3: Merkins x 20
  • Corner 4: Big Boy Sit-ups x 20

Between each station, the pax came back to the middle of the field where they had left their cinder blocks and did 10 overhead presses each time.  The group did 2 laps of this fun before heading back to pick up the six upon finishing.  About halfway through the pax were mentioning how they wished we were playing handball instead, so YHC knew that he was doing something right.

The group then gathered their blocks and headed to the track.  It was time for 10,20,30.

  • 10 tri extensions
  • 20 overhead presses
  • 30 curls for the girls
  • one lap around the track

We started this with the intention of getting through 4 rounds, but only a handful of the pax made it all the way through.  Most finished with 3 laps in.  At this point it was time to put the blocks back and we still had about 3 minutes, so we headed to the parking lot for some Mary.

  • Flutter kicks led by YHC
  • American Hammers led by Pothole

Time was up so we made our way to the shovel flag.  Great work by all the pax this morning, and I hope to see Love Boat and Mister Mister back out with us next week.

Moleskin: Today was a special Q for YHC.  4 years ago, I decided to take the leap and head out for my first F3 workout not really knowing what to expect or what might come.  I remember being so sore after my first workout, but I couldn’t stop telling my wife all about it.  I was hooked from Day 1, but at the time I didn’t know why.  I was happy with my job and had a great marriage, but I was definitely a #sadclown and didn’t even know what that was.  There was something missing in my life that I needed, but I couldn’t identify it.  I remember telling my wife that I was  “bored”.  What I was missing was the male friendships that come so naturally to us when we are younger, but are a struggle for us as we get older or move to new cities.  I started to regularly attend bootcamps and run groups and then started getting involved in #CSAUP events and I really started to make some friends out there.  I mean real friends too.  The type of friends we all need as men.  These are not just men we see in the gloom, but the type of friends that call and text to hold you accountable, not just to show up for a workout, but in life.  They call you to the carpet as a husband or father when it’s needed as well.  They push you to do things outside of your comfort zone, spiritually and physically.  They push you to be a better man!

We were all drawn to F3 for one reason or another, but it all boils down to the same thing: we came to F3 because we needed something that we weren’t already getting in our lives.  Remember that next time you have a conversation with a friend, neighbor, or co-worker.  We all have things that we battle, and F3 could very well be the thing that person needs in their life right now.  Put the EH on, and get them out to the gloom.  Remember that the men of F3 will never leave anyone behind, but they also won’t leave you where they found you.  I am proof of that. See you in the gloom!
