2021 August Challenge

It’s been a tough year, numbers are down, many of our brothers are hurt or are hurting, and apathy seems to have set in for some of us (no-one more than YHC at times).

Have we forgotten what this F3 thing is about?

Are we better now than we were a year ago?

Are we accelerating?

I know the answers for me and I don’t like it. I suspect some of you feel the same. I know that we are capable of so much more.

So what can we do about it?

August 2021 Challenge:

To complete the challenge, you must earn a minimum of 15 points in the month of August. 15 points starting on Sunday 8/1/21 through Tuesday 8/31/20 and you will complete it.  That’s it.

So how do I earn points?

Required Categories (you must attend at least one of each of the required groups)

  1. Attend a Boot Camp at your local AO (1 point for each BC attended)
  2. Attend another AO’s Boot Camp (1 point for each BC attended)
    • Note we have 2 ready-made options this month – Saturday 8/7 Strut 8-year anniversary convergence and Tuesday 8/31 Roost Half-Pipe 
  3. Attend a Run/Ruck group (1 point for each attended)
    • There is a standing run/ruck group on Wednesdays at the CATE center meeting at 0530/0600, others will pop as well throughout the month, typically on MWFs
    • Time doesn’t suit you, invite the PAX and start your own!
  4. Attend a 2nd F Event (1 point each, see twitters for specifics)
    • Thirsty Thursday 2nd Thursday of the Month (8/12/21)
    • Frosty Friday 4th Friday of the Month (8/27/21)
    • Post Saturday Boot Camp (or other) Coffeeterias
    • Others may appear as we go, but key is it must be announced and all PAX are invited
  5. Attend a 3rd F Group (i.e., Legacy, Billy, or Rockpile) (1 point for each attended)
    • Legacy – 0615 on Tuesday’s
    • Billy – 0515 on Thursday’s at GOAT
    • Rockpile – 0500 on Thursday’s at Strut

Optional Categories (not mandatory, but other ways to score points)

  1. Q a workout with backblast – 1 point (no backblast, no points)
    • Backblast can be posted on F3 Midlands (preferred), and/or on Twitter and/or on the Depot chat (just do it). Backblasts must have a minimum of 3 things – when it was, who was there, what you did.  That’s it, does not need to be a magnum opus (but if you are so inclined to express your creativity, do it!).
  2. Bring an FNG to a Boot Camp – Possibly 3 points! 1 point for the first post and 2 more if they post again in August.
  3. Participate and represent F3 in a community event – 1 point
  4. Log your first post into the Coach.Me App (see below) – 1 point

NEW!!!! Optional Category – Weight Loss Challenge

Soccer Mom had a great idea of spicing things up this August by adding a weight loss challenge component! Here’s how it will work, on Sunday 8/1/21 you’ll post your starting weight into the Coach.Me Chat then each subsequent Sunday you’ll post your current weight into the chat. Each time you post your weight, you’ll earn a point. Then we’ll do a final weigh in on 8/29/21 and awards will be given based on % lost. 

Weigh in days:

  • Sunday 8/1/21 – 1 point
  • Sunday 8/8/21 – 1 point
  • Sunday 8/15/21 – 1 point
  • Sunday 8/22/21 – 1 point
  • Sunday 8/29/21 – 1 point

That’s 5 points on the table, just for participating!

To summarize – all you need are 15 points to complete the challenge, just 15.  You can get more and are encouraged to earn as many as you can, but you only need 15.  As above, you must have at least one post in each of the 5 required categories to complete the challenge.

How do I sign up and track my progress?

This event will be tracked through the Coach.Me App. It’s an easy way to keep tabs on your points and help YHC do the same. Help me help you by downloading the Coach.Me App and dutifully logging all those precious points you are earning. This is mandatory to participate. 

  1. Download the Coach.Me App
  2. In the app there’s a little plus sign (+) in the upper right, click this, search out and join “F3AugustChallenge2021”
  3. Each day you earn points log it in and make a note indicating what it was you did (i.e. “Depot BC” or “Legacy”).
  4. Rinse, repeat, prosper

What’s in it for me?

It’s time to get down to business men. This challenge is about more than just points, it’s about reclaiming what you’ve lost or maybe discovering what you have yet to find. You know what I’m talking about….that fire that’s been missing. We’ll do leaderboards to track our progress and prizes will be given to those who complete the challenge.

That’s nice, but I like to paaarrrtayyy!

I hear you, and YHC does as well. Those PAX who hit a minimum of 15 points on or by Saturday August, 28th will be invited to Casa de la Arrears for an exclusive August Challenge Finisher’s BBQ/Pool Party. If smoked meats and a shirtless Arrears isn’t enough to entice you to complete this thing, I don’t know what is.
