Second Chances

I love Easter. You see, awhile back I got sober this time of year so the season holds a special meaning for me. For me, Easter is all about second chances.

History is full of examples of guys being given second chances. During last night’s Good Friday service, Dean Wormer read the long account of the crucifixion of Jesus, including Peter’s denial of Christ not once, or twice, but three time. Here’s a guy who’s second chance (act) was to be the rock that the entire Church was built upon.

I’ve been the beneficiary of many, many, many second chances during the time I’ve spent on the Big Ball: The people who love me gave me a bunch of them. My family, especially my Mom and Dad, were constantly giving me second chances. All my buddies, my good friends, my family, cared enough about me to never let the second chances stop flowing.

A few years ago I met a very special woman who gave me a couple beautiful little girls, and I decided that never, ever again will I ask for a second chance. Sure, I’m going to keep screwing up, but God willing the days of the BIG second chances are far behind me.

The number one thing I had going for me, during the toughest times in my life, we’re the fact that I was surrounded, no, covered with people who loved and cared for me. I couldn’t get rid of these people, even if I wanted to. I attribute that as the reason that I was able to finally turn my life around.

Over the next few weeks, I encourage you to come out to The Mission, at 8:30 at Finlay Park on Saturdays. It’s F3 South Carolina’s newest AO and it’s mission is to serve the men in Oliver Gospel Mission’s drug and alcohol recovery program.

By posting, you may be the helping some guy with his second chance in life.

I doubt you’ll regret it.
