Remembering Jack Fleischer

Earlier this morning, the F3 Columbia community was heartbroken to receive the news that Gump’s oldest 2.0, Jack, passed away following an accident near Charleston.  Known throughout F3 Columbia, Jack, who was 19 and a rising sophomore at Anderson College, was spending his summer working at Camp Saint Christopher, which is located near Charleston.  Jack celebrated his birthday over a week ago, and was recently awarded a scholarship by the Upper Diocese of South Carolina.

While a biography of Jack’s accomplishments during his all too brief time on this Earth (he was also an Eagle Scout) seems appropriate at a time like this, it is his love for Jesus Christ and his love for others that will be his most powerful legacy.  Youth is a time in a man’s life where he can be captured by self-centeredness.  Jack Fleischer was not captivated by such a life, but lived a life of service to others fueled by his faith in Jesus Christ.

Hebrews 12:1 tells us that “we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”

We all should be thankful for the life and ministry of Jack Fleischer, who ran his race with love, with peace, with kindness.

Let us all surround Scott (F3 – Gump), Victoria (FiA – Seam Ripper), and their two children (Isabella and Sam), as well as their extended family and friends, with love and prayers during this time of tragedy.
