Hammer loves the Side Straddle Hops

YHC was back on the scene at Hammer this morning to lead the PAX in a fun-filled beatdown.  Upon arrival to Satchel Ford, it was evident that the ‘light up the neighborhood’ push had not been fulfilled.  The roads were as dark as ever.

Before bringing the pain, YHC had to acknowledge the interesting gear choices of the #Hammer PAX.  It appears that 50 degrees is cold enough to warrant tights, long sleeves and fuzzy hats.  Chopshop and Splinter apparently found a his-n-her matching set on sale, as they were both decked out in all black.  Chopshop went a step further with what I believe to be a doo-rag/beanie combo.  Maybe he watched Pirates of the Caribbean last night and became inspired.

Anyway, on with the thang:

Conditions – a crisp 50 degrees and perfectly clear

The Thang:

YHC don’t know much about this neighborhood, but I know that Briarfield road is long and has a nice hill, perfect for working out.  We stopped at the Satchel Ford intersection for a quick 20 IC of SSH’s and Makhtar N’Diaye’s, of which very few were familiar.  One thing is very clear about this road, it is seriously ouchie when it comes to low planks and ab work.  LBC’s were next on the docket but a car was descending upon us so we took off down the hill for some circuit work:
20 Merkins, 20 LBC’s, 5 burpees

SSH while waiting on the 6 (active recovery is the best recovery, as YHC learned from Costanza.  I don’t know how many extra SSH’s Splinter performed while waiting on us, but it would give a Hustler Q a run for its money)

Run to the top of the hill to Sylvan Drive:
Repeat 20/20/5 circuit with SSH recovery

Run, bear crawl, lunge walk, crab walk, combo to Briarwood Rd:

Do that circuit thang again with the SSH’s

Backwards run to Oakfield Rd:

Circuit City (at this time Chopshop had to tie his shoelaces, which took an inordinate amount of time. YHC thought he was cracking a safe, but I guess he got tired of the circuit)

Pretend like were gonna run to Trenholm rd, but stop ¾ of the way and turn back around to Oakfield:
Circuit time (it may have been at this time where Splinter and Misfire were seriously concerned for their fellow PAX’s indifference to SSH recovery)

Bear Crawl, Lunge walk to Briarwood Rd:

Circuit Time

Run to Sylvan Dr:

Circuit for the last time

YHC led the PAX back to the bottom of the hill for some nice n easy 11’s:

Merkin/Plank Jack combo – SSH recovery

V-up/Big Boy Situp combo – SSH recovery

Now these #Hammer men really loved the 11’s, it was a nice break from the monotony of the circuit, but I had to keep the SSH recovery.  It’s important to work the muscles after strenuous workouts.

With little time remaining, YHC led the gang on a backwards run back up to Satchel Ford, which proved more difficult than I imagined.  Just when you think you hit the top of the hill, that mofo just keeps on going!

Extended plank sequence at the top (the fastest runners chose an alternative to SSH’s).

Run back to the flag for a few last minute exercises: 5 Burpees then 5 Carolina Drydocks, AMRAP for 2.5 minutes.

Fin

It’s always a pleasure to lead the men of #hammer in a good workout.  They work hard and mumble even harder.
