The day CAT conquered the Roman Empire and Amazon River

Today’s workout was another installment of April trivial Qs at CAT.  These different workout styles (theme based, game based, co-Q, whatever) are sometimes a shot in the arm to both the PAX and QIC who has to be a little creative.  I had a couple of ideas and ultimately settled for the “are you smarter that a 5th grader” route.  More on this in a minute…

We had 2 for RuckLite that covered a little over 2 miles.  Irrev joined us at about mile 1 and we split ways at the CAT shovel flag (he continued back to The Hollow).

nice cool weather, 1 minute warning, intro, disclaimer, prayer

mosey around behind the guest dugout area for the warmup:

  • 15x Imperial Walkers IC
  • 15x Michael Phelps IC
  • 15x Air Squats IC
  • 15x Hillbillies IC

mosey to the brick planter section (whatever you call that thing) behind the home dugout for the remainder of the workout:

We played “Are you smarter than a 5th grader”.  There were sets of 5 questions, from grades 1 through 5, from 5 subjects.  There was a “house” set of exercises with “penalty reps” added for wrong answers.  So we would do 5 questions, exercise, and repeat.  There was plenty of mumble chatter, head scratching, helpful hints from the “phone a friends”, etc.  If I recall correctly, we went through the following:

  • 1st grade History
  • 2nd grade English and Literature
  • 3rd grade Geography
  • 4th grade Science
  • 5th grade Mathematics
  • 2nd grade History
  • 3rd grade English and Literature
  • 4th grade Geography
  • 5th grade Science
  • 1st grade Mathematics
  • 3rd grade History
  • 4th grade English and Literature
  • 5th grade Geography

The exercises were based on the grade level:

  • 1st grade – bearcrawl 1 lap around the planter, plus another lap for any incorrect answers
  • 2nd grade – 10 burpees, plus 2 for any incorrect answers
  • 3rd grade – 16 step ups (8 each leg), plus 2 for any incorrect answers
  • 4th grade – 20 merkins, plus 2 for any incorrect answers
  • 5th grade – 25 squats, plus 2 for any incorrect answers

As an extra challenge, on the last round of questions the pax had to answer standing on one foot.

As we finished up and headed back to the parking lot, we went through a handful of random trivia.  We wrapped things up at the shovel flag with the count-o-rama, name-o-rama, announcements, prayer, and pledge of allegiance.
