SEVEN7SEVEN

YHC was looking forward to a Saturday morning Q with the PAX of Shawshank (and the other allegedly-converging PAX from The Hollow and C.A.T.). These guys are always up for a good challenge, and because the day that I finally move away from Lexington and will no longer be able to post here is drawing closer, I wanted to put at least one more beatdown on these fellas.

In response to a workout done at The Hills of Park West AO in Charleston entitles “The Beast” in which we completed SIX rounds of SIX reps of SIX different exercises, I decided to up the ante a bit and go for SEVEN rounds of SEVEN reps of SEVEN different exercises because… well… because I knew these guys would be able to handle it.

After not posting for almost a week due to a pretty intense sickness, I was unsure if I’d be up for my own plan. (SPOILER ALERT: I barely made it.) Not deterred, though, I put on my big boy pants, laced up my new running shoes and headed to the Shank. Here’s how it went down…

DEVO
John 6:66
“After this many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him.”

In John 6, after he fed the 5,000 and walked on water, the crowds came to Jesus asking to see more signs and miracles. Instead, Jesus challenged them with difficult truths and uncomfortable commands. As John 6:66 details, “After that many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him.”

Jesus wasn’t driven by the praise of the people and didn’t need the validation of an ever-expanding ministry to consider his ministry a “success.” Simply put, numbers weren’t all that important to him. Like Jesus, I believe that when we measure success in terms of the number of men who post at a given AO or on a given day, we’re missing the point. Certainly we want more men to come out to experience what F3 has to offer. Our true impact, though, isn’t measured in the BREADTH of our impact but by its DEPTH.

I would suggest F3 Lexington’s greatest impact has been the degree to which a smaller number of men’s lives have been completely transformed by what this group has provided – in all three Fs. This core group of men who have been radically changed are the ones with the power to truly impact this community and thereby bring greater numbers of men into the fold.

To attempt to grow F3 Lexington, this AO or any AO simply in number will do little to have a lasting impact, and over time the numbers will fade as men search for the next new thing. May we all stay focused on making a significant (if small) and consistent impact day by day, workout by workout and trust that this will lead to an increase in both the depth AND breadth of our influence.

As always, it was an honor to stand among and lead these men. I look forward to seeing them again one day in the gloom.
