Did We Just Play Hopscotch?

Treadmill put out a request for someone to step up and take the reigns of Turning Point today (yep, there was a pun intended there). YHC has felt the pull to Q another bootcamp somewhere, and what better time than on a Saturday. YHC had only been to TP one previous time, but felt right at home from the start. YHC promised some running, but quickly felt like a pseudo-runner when a certain unnamed pax confessed to putting in 11 miles before we started. YHC didn’t even drive that far.

Conditions: 27F, minimally damp, dark & gloomy to start but some of God’s beautiful sun graced us later in the workout.

Disclosure: actual full disclosure. We had a FNG and a couple of newbies to YHC.

Prayer

The Thang:
YHC has always appreciated how kids run around like a flock of seagulls. There seems to be no rhythm to their madness, so why not have some fun with the guys. We started walking towards the lower field while YHC put on his gloves. There might have been a few comments about the enjoyment of the slow walking pace, but YHC was just preparing for the fun. Do a quick U-turn and mosey up and out of the back parking lot to the main parking lot. It was a bit brisk and a good warm-up mosey was in order. Mosey up and down the first lane and then time for a little, COT.

COT:
SSH x 30
TTT x 25
LBAC x 10 each way

Mosey to the top of the parking lot

Merkins x 10 IC
LBCs x 10 IC

YHC had been carrying a football the entire time. At least for YHC a football in someone’s hand is like a dog biscuit. As soon as I see it, I want it. You want the ball? I want the ball!!!! YHC duffed a punt, but that’s okay, we’re bear crawling to it. As soon as we get to the ball, recover. YHC then throws it this time. Surely it went about 75 yards or was it feet? Oh well, it was half the parking lot to the lower side. Turtle crawl (Plank walk) down the curb to the ball. YHC mentioned earlier in the Disclosure time not to leave the 6, but the PAX all wanted the ball. As soon as the super plankers reached the ball, head to the six and turtle crawl again. The middle speed guys reverse turtle walk up the hill until they reach the 6 from the other side. Once everyone is back together, mosey to the bottom of the hill. Circle up.

IW x 30 IC
Squats x 20 IC with some holding in squat position. YHC knows you can’t read his mind, YHC can’t even read his mind. YHC just wanted to feel some burn.
Recover

Mosey to the top of the parking lot again to the wall. Now, we notice a truck sitting at the top of the parking lot watching us. There was discussion to EH the person watching us, but the unknown of what the driver was doing while 8 sweaty guys ran around a parking lot killed that idea quickly. Oddly enough, it was just a lost soul looking for a place to work out. YHC heard the unnamed pax saw how hard the work-out was and went to Shawshank.

Find a piece of wall and do step-ups, 20 each leg.
Plank when done.
Plank-o-rama, neutral, right arm up, right side dips x 10 IC, neutral, left arm up, left side dips x 10 IC, neutral, right leg up, neutral, recover.

What’s that the Pax say, we didn’t do the left side??? YHC knows that. YHC is trying to become a runner, it’s time for more leg work. Curb leaps x 20, plank when done.
More Plank-o-rama (truck is gone now, breath of relief). Left leg up, neutral, right leg pulled up to chest, neutral, left leg pulled up to chest, recover.

Mosey to the top of the parking lot. It’s time for YHC to give credit where credit is due. YHC briefed the guys on a No Help 14 count burpee. Unlike No Help, YHC is still a beginner and only asked for 5 OYO. There was still some good moaning on this one. Mosey to the bottom of the parking lot and find some wall.

Peoples Chair, neutral, arms out, arms overhead, and the overhead arm clap x 20 IC. YHC admits, the legs were burning and hurting so the IC count did quicken, but there wasn’t any objections to this. Recover. Incline merkins x 10 IC.

Mosey past the cars, nope it’s not time to quit yet. The fun has just begun. Now that we are all warmed up, keep moseying to the lower courts and describe a game known as zombie tag. 3 zombies are crab walking, the other 5 pax are bear crawling. 1/2 court rules and go! Once all are zombies, switch it up and rinse and repeat.

Mosey to the bottom of kamikaze hill, and head up the stairs. YHC really likes walls so it’s time to play with another wall. Balls to the Walls x 30 count, in YHCs head. YHC couldn’t see all the pax, but one appeared to be completely vertical. NO one passed out or hit the head, but the mumble chatter indicated that YHC was trying to get new patients.

Mosey to upper basketball court and refresh the pax’s minds about hopscotch. Hopscotch across the two 4 square courts, then frog leap across the middle of the court, then hopscotch across the last two 4 square courts. Wait for everyone to reach the other side, then rinse and repeat. One pax, not YHC, is built like a rubber band and almost cleared the pax with his leaps through the air. Once everyone is done, slow careful slowsey down the hill to the bricks and blocks. 4 pax get blocks, 4 pax get 2 bricks and mosey to the field.

Brick & Block Work
4 pax with blocks do
1. curls for girls x 10 IC
2. overhead presses x 10 IC
3. Squats x 10 IC

4 pax with bricks do
1. russian twists x 10 IC
2. man makers x 10 IC
3. bench press x 10 IC

Bricks go to Blocks and Blocks go to Bricks
Rinse & Repeat
Put away blocks & bricks.

Mosey to the football field and let’s play with that football we’ve been carrying.
4 on offense, 4 on defense. Everyone has a chance to be the QB. 4 people, 4 downs. Play stops as soon as the ball is caught or dropped. No touchdowns. If you reach the end of the field, then switch and go the other way. If defense causes a dropped ball or interception, then offense does 10 burpees. If offense catches the ball, then defense does 10 merkins. Play for about 6 minutes total, then mosey to the parking lot.

COT/BOM

FNG-Daniel Osborne. Married, 2 kids, sells garbage trucks, brews his own beer. Makes really good beer (YHC can attest to this). Budweiser, Trash Beer—-> welcome to PBR!

Closing Prayer

Continued Prayer requests:
1. Say What’s sister diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this week.
2. Sebastian at MGES, 3rd grader diagnosed with leukemia.
3. Eli, boy in Cub Scout Pack 507 at Lexington United Methodist Church with brain cancer
4. Walker, continued healing
5. Continue to remember our injured and ill F3 brothers

Today’s Devotion, sorry it didn’t occur at the work-out, but it’s never too late.

Philipians 2:12-13, “My dear friends, you have always obeyed God. You obeyed while I was with you. And you have obeyed even more while I am not with you. So continue to work out your own salvation. Do it with fear and trembling. God is working in you. He wants your plans and your acts to be in keeping with his good purpose.”

Most of us in F3 know God. We strive to better ourselves, not only physically, but mentally and spiritually. Just like working out, we have to continue giving everything we do our best effort. When our work-outs get easy, it’s time to step it up. In life, whenever we feel like our spiritual journey is easy, step it up. Listen to God, and see what His plan is for your life. The Holy Spirit is strong, but we can often be deaf to it. Keep your plan in life and your goals to reflect that which God would be proud, and act when asked to act. I bet we all have accomplished more than we ever thought was possible. Imagine what we can do when we let God guide us.
